Lester 08-348

Profile

Introducing Lester, who looks like a big teddy bear!! He is said to be a stray turned into a humane society, but may have been from a back yard breeder.

We think he may be about 7 years old, he does know 'sit', loves the water, and likes to retrieve!!

He has had a good brushing of his fur (see picture) and a bath, did very well with both activities. Lester loves all the attention he is getting, and will excel in obedience training.

Lester will be having a vet visit soon to get updated on shots and neutered....stay tuned for more info on this big love bug!!

Hi All,

Foster Dad talking at you today. Lester has had a very eventful nine days.

Nine days ago, Lester was very quiet and still. Now, if you have been following the updates, you will know that this is unusual.

Eight days ago, he was still very quiet. He did not follow us around, and he started to not eat or drink.

Seven days ago we took him to our vet.

Six days and twenty-two hours ago, the vet called me and said Lester needed emergency surgery. There was a blockage in his intestines and it had to come out. It was dangerous surgery, but it had to be done. We visited him after the surgery and he was very quiet. He spent the night at the vet's.

Five days ago, it was like we had a different dog. He was still in the vet's care, but he was back to his old self again. We fed him three times a day: a kinda dog chicken-soup.

Three days ago, we started letting him run a little off the lead and we noticed something: Lester was "Spunky". Yes, you heard me...."Spunky". Now keep in mind, that this is a side of Lester that we have never seen before. At first we thought it was the drugs but soon discovered that the obstruction had been ailing him for some time...even before he came into RAGOM! It turns out that the obstruction was a large rock. It is about one and 1/2 times the size of a golf ball.

Two days, yesterday and today: Lester has been getting lots of extra love from the foster family; much to the shagrin of fur-sister Hanna. Speaking of Hanna, we have noticed since the surgery that Lester is more willing to play chase with Hanna than when he first came. Lester will still be on a special diet for another five days, but he is doing fine. Please enjoy the pictures, especially of the rock!

Hi All,

Well, it has been a while since my last update and here is what is new: I learned to jump off the dock. I really enjoy swimming, but do not let that stop you from considering me. My all-time favorite activity is to fetch things. I love it! I have been going in the crate during the day while the family is away. Yesterday, my fosters left me in the bedroom with my fur-sister. We were well behaved and no accidents. I still like to go for walks and enjoy being around people. Foster mom lets me up onto the lazy-boy so that I can bask in the sun and be a lazy-boy. Foster dad will even, occasionally, let me up on the bed at night. At night, I have run of the house, but prefer to be around the parent's bed.

Hi All,

Well, Lester has had a busy few weeks since his first update. He has been to the vet and is up-to-date on all of his vaccinations, he has been neutered, and he had some minor surgery on his right eye to correct his eyelid (his eye lashes were growing on the inside of his eye. He weighed 61 pounds.

We do not know a lot about Lester's history. We know he was a stray and was turned in to a shelter in Rapid City, S.D. We do know that Lester is all love and if given the chance he would gladly crawl into your skin; he likes people that much! Lester is about 7 years old and the vet thinks he did not have a good life: except for his front few teeth and a few in the back, all the others are worn down to the gum line.  Lester is a dominant dog and likes to be the boss.  Fortunately we are working on changing that and a few of his bad habits. The worst being: carrying around shoes, slipper, stuffed animals, counter surfing, and enjoying the comforts of our new furniture. He does get along with our yellow lab and has met other dogs with no issues.

Lester is not crate trained but will grudgingly go in for a treat (and a little pushing). Lester is house trained but does not have run of the house just yet. He does, however, have run of the bedroom at bedtime. He usually just lays down at the foot of our bed. Lester loves to retrieve! He likes to fetch the throwing dummy and will drop it on command. Lester also enjoys the water, but does not like to jump off of docks....yet :-). Lester loves to be by people and will follow you around everywhere!

Lester's perfect home would be one where he is the only dog. Lester enjoys walks but does pull a little. We do not know how he is around cats. It would be nice if his home has a fenced in yard, but that is not a requirement. He will come when called and does not seem to want to wander. Lester rides well in cars, but wants to be in your lap. Lester can get a little rambunctious when he is playing as so kids under 10 might get knocked down. Lester wants to be near you. That is all for now, enjoy the new pictures!
