Casey 08-322

Profile

Meet Casey, a 1.5 year old, neutered purebred male Golden. He’s a big marshmallow, sweet, goofy, and house broken!!

Casey was a cherished family pet that was surrendered to RAGOM by a family that has fallen on some hard times. It is apparent by his playful, carefree personality, and trust of people that he was very well treated in the past.

Casey is a big boy, about 90 pounds, but could stand to lose some weight. At his vet visit last month it was suggested that he lose 10—15 pounds. While he has a stocky build I think it would best if he dropped closer to 15 pounds. He has had some basic obedience training but needs continued training as he has a habit of jumping and licking people. Since he is a larger dog I do not feel that he would be best suited for a family with small children as he would most likely bowl them over. With a little time and effort this issue can be overcome, but anyone considering adopting Casey will have to work with him on these correctable issues.

Casey comes complete with an AKC Registration Application, Certificate of Pedigree, lineage information and pictures and descriptions of his parents. Casey’s mother, Bonnie, is described as "She has that big blocky head. She is full of energy and is always first to the pond. She treats everyone like they are just special and is so gentle with our grandchildren." Casey’s father, Hunter, is described as "a magnificent dog with all the patience in the world. Many of his offspring are active in therapy work, agility or just outstanding pets."

While Casey has only been with me one day I know he would do well with other dogs, and due to his love of people probably would do fine as the only dog in the household. He was invisible fence trained at his prior home and respected his boundaries so a large invisible fenced yard would suit Casey fine.

If you are an approved applicant and are interested in meeting this loveable lug please contact Placementatragom [dot] org. I will write and update in a few days as I get to know Casey better.

It is with the greatest sadness I inform you that our beloved Casey (08-322) has been helped across the Rainbow Bridge. Casey went from being his usual “Clown Prince” on Sunday to coughing up blood on Monday, and was euthanized in the early morning hours of Tuesday. It was very fast.

We went to great lengths to determine the cause of the illness. Xrays revealed either lung cancer or Blastomycosis. We were waiting for test results, hoping it was Blastomycosis so we could treat the problem. It was just not to be. We made the decision to euthanize him to end any suffering. It was a very difficult decision and we are all grieving, including our other dog Dolly (yes, she’s also a Rescue). We got the test results back late yesterday and it was negative for Blastomycosis, so our decision to euthanize and our timing were correct.

We want to thank RAGOM for bringing Casey into our lives. We want to thank the Rassmussen family for making the decision to surrender Casey and for letting us adopt him. Casey was very much loved and will be missed terribly. We wanted to share with you just who Casey was and what made him so special...

  • I’ll never forget the first time we met Casey. I had hurt my back and was still healing up, but when we got the call to drive to Lakeville to meet him, we were excited to go. I figured it would be OK because I wouldn’t be moving around a lot and the car had heated seats so my back muscles would keep loose. Of course, as soon as Steve (the Foster) opened his door, Casey launched himself into my chest, laying me flat on my back. Then he knocked our son into the shrubs. It was love at first sight.
  • The next day, I made toast and coffee for breakfast. When I got back to the kitchen, Casey had his paws on the counter top and his tongue in the butter.
  • Then there was the incident at obedience school where Casey decided to start running in big circles and got all the other dogs to follow him.
  • All the walks we went on together. Always looking up at us with affection.
  • Chasing Mr. Sunbeam.
  • Sharing a beer.
  • Cuddles.
  • Stealing socks, slippers, shoes, boots, hats, underwear, and anything else he could find unattended.
  • Casey scared off a bear once in the back yard. Very brave.
  • Always freaking out when he heard the smoke detector or thunder.
  • Barking at me when Mommy left for work.
  • Grabbing my arm and taking me down.
  • Watching Puppy Bowl and DogTV.
  • Helping us get over the loss of our Goldie.
  • Nibbling corn on the cob.
  • Love for popcorn.
  • All the times people said, “He has the softest fur”
  • Watching him wiggle when we gave him a butt massage.

Thanks again RAGOM, we wouldn't have missed this for the world,

Mick and Sandy A.

From Casey's forever family...

I call this photo 'My sleep number is 40'. It features Casey doing one of the things he loves most - camping out on our Select Comfort bed. Casey was surrendered last June by a loving family and we were selected to adopt in part because it was felt his life with us would be similar to what his life was like with his surrendering family.

Hi RAGOM,

We have had Casey (08-322) for just over a month now and we wanted to let you know how he is doing.

First of all, we have to tell you what a perfect match we were for each other. He really seems to have taken the move well.

He is very affectionate, and loves all the attention he gets from us. He likes to play games with us by taking slippers, shoes, and sometimes socks to try to get us to chase him around the house. Casey loves all of us, especially our 11 year old son.

We go on daily walks between 2 and 6 miles a day which he really enjoys. He has lost some weight from all the exercise and I probably have too. He gets very excited if he thinks we are going in the car. He has been in Obedience School for three weeks now and is doing very well. He seems to know when we are going to class and he gets very excited. So far he hasn’t met any people or animals he doesn’t like.

We were asked by his original owners to contact them and let them know how Casey is doing from time to time. We have been in touch with them several times since we adopted Casey and they are very happy for all of us that things worked out so well. We have exchanged pictures of Casey with them and they have sent us some photos of Casey from earlier in his life. It could not have worked out better!

I have attached a couple of photos so you can see Casey living the GReat Life.

Thanks for all you do,

Mike A.
