Honey (Penny 08-291)

Profile

Penny, Lovey, Red - She answers to all of them, sometimes. She is a spayed female with an estimate age of  6 to 7 years old.

This beauty came to RAGOM as a stray but was a beloved pet before her Wild Thing days. She does not jump, does not counter surf, I haven't heard her bark yet (even when Resident Dog does), walks nicely on the leash, does not guard her food and enjoys time on furniture.

Lovey (my favorite name for her) has a kennel cough we are working to get rid of. Like most goldens, she likes to have a toy or ball in her mouth, and she likes humans to play with her. She plays this great game of rolling the ball on the floor to you with her nose and then waiting for the ball to be rolled back to her. She can roll the ball back and forth like this quite a few times. It is almost like she knows she has to rest and take it easy to get better, but she really wants to play.

This week, my RAGOM Golden, Honey, had to be euthanized. She may have been 15. Honey and I came together in 24 hours. I received a call from her foster mom, saying that she was scheduled to go out of town and would have to find another foster or I could meet her half-way and adopt her on the spot. I was in my car like a flash. I brought my other dog and both of them went about the smelling routine. She was a beautiful red coat dog that was found wandering in a suburb of Minneapolis. They believed she was spayed.

When I got home, she went through estrus so RAGOM helped me get her spayed at a local vet. Honey was close to my other dog. Even though they each had a dog bed they slept together on one. They walked well together but both were independent females. About a year ago, a specialist vet discovered her kidneys could not concentrate her urine. Three weeks ago, she became bloated extending to her legs. She couldn't move. I wrestled with the decision to euthanize her and I bawled as she left. Some of it was guilt and most of it was loss. She will always be in my heart. Thank you RAGOM for the gift of her companionship.
