Max 08-288

Profile

Please welcome a new guy to the RAGOM ranks – Max.  Samuel Max according to his papers, but he answers to Max.  Max is a 5.5 year old neutered purebred golden.  Max came into rescue from a family of Good Samaritans that rescued him from a bad situation last fall.  Now they feel it is in his best interest to find a new home and we are thrilled to have him with us!

He is as sweet as they get!  He met our grumpy resident Tillie without a hitch, all the neighbors including big and little kids (all of which he loves) and all the neighborhood dogs.  He lived with a kitty in his last home and did great with her.  He loves everyone and everything he has come in contact with.  He loves car rides (like most fosters, thinks he must ride in the passenger seat), walks, and most of all attention from humans!

He has been vetted and brought up to date on all his shots.  His only issue is that he is seriously overweight – he weighed a whopping 107 pounds!!!!!  The vet feels that he will be healthiest at 80-85 pounds so we have some work to be done L  He loves to go on walks, but due to his weight we don’t go far and when he is tired he just lays down, catches his breath and then is back up and ready to finish out the walk.  I did have his thyroid checked and we will get news on that in the near future – if comes back low, the fix is really easy and cheap, a couple pills in his food each day and he will be on the road to weight loss and better health.  If it is okay, we’ll just slowly work him into more and longer walks – I am very excited for the day that he loses enough weight to go for long walks like he’d love to doJ

This guy is a jewel!  If you are looking for a running buddy, he probably will never be the right dog, but if you want a wonderful companion that wants nothing more than to be your buddy, accompany you wherever you go, and give you tons of love and kisses in appreciation – this might be your guy.   Let placement know if you’d like to meet him.

Max is doing great! He is as sweet and wonderful as they get. He is a very easy foster, no accidents, loves everyone he meets, is up for anything, has no issues with grumpy resident Tillie, and even foster dad has agreed to be his one and only foster parent while foster mom is gone for the next 4 days on a business trip – that says a lot about how easy this guy is.

His HW test was negative and his thyroid function came back in the normal range, so that means he is fat because he doesn’t get enough exercise :( We are working on that – we are up to 1 mile, 3 times a day, weather permitting. Unfortunately, with the bad weather we have been having (rain or really hot and humid), we aren’t consistent with the 3 miles a day, but we will get it accomplished.

I do think he has lost a few pounds, once I get back from my trip, we will get him into the vet for a weigh in and hope that he has lost some weight.

As you can see by the new picture, Max adores having anything on him rubbed or scratched. Check out the smile on his face, actually, he smiles a lot! This guy is a keeper, let placement know if you are interested in meeting him.
