Toby 08-200

Profile

Toby is a gorgeous boy who never stops wagging his tail. He is very friendly, loves to be pet and just layed at my feet last night enjoying the attention. Toby and his brother Trevor (08-201) are used to being outside so I think he would do best in a home with a big yard to play in. He still needs to be neutered and find a permanent foster home before he can be adopted so keep watching for more updates on this handsome fella!

Toby is a handsome, affectionate, almost 4 year old, PB. He is housetrained, neutered, and has no health problems. He has had many changes in his life. His history goes like this. His initial family purchased him and his brother as puppies. He was very happy and loved by his family. Then his family moved and could not take him. He spent some time with a RAGOM foster and was adopted by a family that adored him. However, Toby did some growling, but didn’t hurt anyone. He was returned to RAGOM, where he underwent a full assessment. Toby didn’t show any growling tendencies. He was friendly but appeared depressed. Everything checked out negative/normal medically. Toby then spent some time in boarding. The staff reported that he showed no signs of aggression. He was loving and appreciative. He reportedly enjoyed romping in the yard and playing in the doggie pool.

Now that we have you caught up on his history, we will fill you in on the current Toby. I picked Toby up on Saturday. He approached me with excitement and delight. He jumped right into the vehicle and rode well the entire trip. When we arrived at my home, we took a long walk. By the end of the walk, he was no longer pulling and walked beside me with a normal Golden prance. Since then we have gone on many walks and he has become consistently relaxed and great on the leash. Toby greeted our resident Golden without any problem, but didn’t care for our resident Sammy. We are expecting that it is simply first day jitters. So far Toby loves to be pet and snuggled and is getting used to hanging out with the resident dogs. He has picked up on walking on a leash, sit commands and our routine.

Stay tuned to read more about this beautiful boy as we learn more about him.

Toby was neutered this past week. He is back home now and doing very well. It takes him a good three days to settle in and then he is very calm and laid back. He is not a counter surfer and does not like to be crated. He has free roam of the house and is fine. He likes to chew on all kinds of dog toys and does not chew on things he shouldn't. Toby met a family at Chuck and Don's while he was in MN and they are coming to see him again after next weekend. Keep your paws crossed for him.

Toby is doing great in his new fosterhome. He and the resident dogs have adjusted to each other. He is sleeping in the master bedroom very well. He does not like the crate but does not need it. He is a beautiful 3 year old dog and will be going to see the vet this week for a checkup and neutering.

Toby has landed at his Cedar Rapids, IA, foster home. The first impressions are quite good. He is a VERY handsome and muscular dog with a beautiful medium/dark coat of fur. His weight is estimated in the 80 pound range. We will find out his exact weight Monday when he goes in for his general wellness exam. He is also scheduled to be neutered on Tuesday. (We haven't broken that news to him yet!)

His former position of dominance is no longer. Toby has done quite well getting along with our two dogs and four cats. He does enjoy spending his time smelling our female golden's tail end, but she is in the process of teaching him proper etiquette when in a stranger's house. They'll get it all straightened out in a day or two.

Lots of panting and pacing his first night as he becomes familiar with his new surroundings, but that is very typical.

Toby was a challenge on a regular leash, so we wasted no time fitting him with a Gentle Leader. Introductory 5-10 minute training in the backyard was enough for him to begin to adjust. Later we went for a neighborhood walk. After about 1/2 block, Toby did just fine. We'll see if he remembers his lesson on today's stroll. Stay tuned.

Hard to get him to stay still his first time in yard with so much to smell. Found out the best way was to wait until he gave his three-legged dog impression. Will have pics more when he settles in a bit more.
