Clifford 08-177

Profile

Hello all, give a big welcome to Clifford. This handsome, lovable, and mellow boy was vetted today and weighed in at 101.7 pounds. He was brought up to date by the surrendering owner on all vaccinations before he was surrendered. A big thanks for that. He checked out in all other test on the negative side, so all is well and he is one healthy boy. His medical history shows that in March of 2007 he had seizures. He had none previously and none since. He was treated with meds at that time and it seems it was corrected as he hasn't had a further problem. He was micro-chipped today and had a wellness check, so he is all set for that new forever home.

Cliff is a real gentleman and I do mean that literally. When on leash he walks at heel. No pulling or tugging. He sits on command, Lay's when told, and stays until told to move. He has run of the house here and has chosen to sleep by the side of my bed. He is crate trained and will crate up on command. He has been trained on a gentle leader as well as a straight leash. He stands by the door when he wants out to potty and will do so when told "potty". He is also a talker. When he is anxious or nervous he whines, whimpers, and has a nice conversation with you.

As they say, "a picture is worth a thousand words" as his intake photo shows. So not much more needs to be said regarding this topic. He likes kids. For a big fella he is very gentle until it is time to retrieve a ball (or for that matter anything else he can carry). He is a "whirling dervish" when it comes to this. The only way to get him to stop is put said ball, etc away and he settles back down to being "ole laid back Cliff." This boy loves to retrieve!! He also has been around cats with no problems. A fenced yard is a must for this guy and it has to be taller than 4 feet. Cliff can easily jump a four footer.(wow!! what a vertical leap) He has been with me for five days now and other than jumping in my SUV I haven't seen him jump at all,he definitely does not jump on people. That, I know for sure. He thoroughly enjoys going for his walks with the rest of the pack. He almost turns inside out with wiggles when it is time to go. He gets along well with the resident dog's and also with a former foster pup who loved to play. Cliff tolerated him until he had enough and then "laid down the law". After that all that was needed was a throaty growl and playtime ended.

Clifford could be the poster dog for the breed. He has the perfect Golden disposition, very well trained, the physical Bering of a fine tuned athlete, and loves people. The Earl of Tweed would be proud to see how well his beloved Golden's have survived through the years in this magnificent guy.
