Pooh arrived in Oakdale, MN on 3/22 but will be moving this weekend to his Foster home in North Dakota.

Pooh is a great dog who doesn't act 7. He shows no age related problems - you would think he was a 3 year old. Pooh enjoys chasing balls but he will not bring them back which is fine with my Oakley who loves to fetch the ball and bring it back.

Pooh gets along with my 3 dogs and my 2 cats. Pooh is a pretty easy going guy who adores humans and would love to soak up all the love he can get.

Pooh does have a few strange habits that he may have had since a pup, hard to tell for sure. Pooh likes to take fleece blankets, rugs, socks or other objects and he would, if you allowed him to (but you shouldn't), chew on them. Pooh at times has growled when I try to take something that he isn't ready to give up or he will run and hide in a kennel with the item. When he does this I just offer him a chew appropriate item or a treat and he easily gives up the item. This habit can be hopefully broken with training otherwise you will need to make sure he doesn't have access to these types of items.

Another strange habit is that he LOVES dog beds… and I mean LOVES them. Other than the two strange habits he is an AWESOME dog. Easy going, not high energy, he enjoys playing, going for walks, likes car rides, when he gets excited playing he barks and talks, and is a huge lover. He makes me laugh a lot of the time. When I ask if the dogs want to go out he always goes to the front door, rolls in the snow, and is just a sweet goofy guy. He is all golden and has all the great qualities that goldens have.

I'm BAAAAAAACK!!!

Pooh here. Did you miss me?

OK, here's the story....I was adopted into a loving home and then I pulled a knucklehead move. I bit my adoptive mom when she was trying to take a *treasure away from me. (* treasure = something I'm pretty sure I'm not supposed to have.)

Anyway, I sat in quarantine for 10 days and then back in to RAGOM's care at a boarding facility. My current foster mom and dad came to visit me and decided that I could stay with them until I found my forever home. You see, they were confident that they could live with and hopefully help me with my guarding issues because they were trained very well by their beloved RAGOM dog Kirby 02-064, to keep "stuff" picked up if you didn't want it stolen and guarded. Oh, yeah, if Kirby didn't think he was getting enough attention, he'd grab the kitchen washcloth and prance around in front of his mom and dad....but when he finally realized that they were no longer interested in playing his keep away game, he dropped the cloth and found a bone to chew on instead. Mom says she only wished he would've put the cloth back where he found it.....and then there was the time when he got the garbage can cover stuck on his head....OK, enough about Kirby.

Back to me. Other than the little guarding thing, I'm the perfect dog. I'm about as mellow as a Golden gets. I take treats very nicely. No potty accidents for this boy. OK, I can be a little stubborn. If I'm not sure I want to do something or get confused about what is being asked of me, I lay down and roll over....all 89 pounds of me turns to lead. Oh, one more thing, I listen like a rock... OK, I guess I do have faults, but nobody's perfect.....

I LOVE outside. In fact, all day today, I have been hanging in the garage with my foster dad. I'm being the manager while he's installing cabinets. I pretty much just sleep on the cool floor while he sweats. Yep, life is good.

I've had two guarding incidents here at my foster home so far. One time, I grabbed the Poodle's belly band when we came in from going potty. I ran right to my kennel and when mom came near, I growled. She sat down and talked to me and finally I dropped it. The second time, I took a little stuffed bed into my kennel. That time, Mom started talking to me but then decided to do the "trade" thing. So, she got up to get a treat, and darned if I didn't follow her. I wonder if I thought she didn't want to play so what fun is it to guard something if no one else wants it.....

Having told you my story, foster mom says I can't act flippantly about my resource guarding. It's a real thing and I do have teeth so I am able to hurt people. I will need a firm alpha forever family that's going to gently remind me that I'm not the boss and also keep their "stuff" picked up and supply me with adequate toys for my chewing pleasure. I've not had any issues with the resident dogs at my foster home - I guess everyone knows to respect each others play time. I don't even care that the little blind dog runs in to me sometimes. I can tell she's harmless. I think the cats are pretty cool too.

Gotta run. I'm sure it's almost dinner time...

Pooh had a great weekend at the lake last weekend. If you want to see a picture of what he did all weekend see "Sunning on the deck" picture above. He stayed out of the Expedition all weekend. He would lay on top of the deck until he got too warm then he would lay under the deck. He just watched all the people and golf carts go by. He is so mellow, he didn't get excited about anything. When someone would come in the yard he would walk over to them to get petted and then he would go back and lay on the deck. We went for walks but didn't let him get back in the water to swim. I think the water is too cold yet. He is such a good dog it is hard to believe he is still with us and someone hasn't snatched him up yet.

We let him have free roam of the house and a thunderstorm came through while we were at work. When we got home Pooh Bear had all of the closet doors open. He must have been trying to find a place to hide because he didn't touch anything in the closets. He just doesn't like thunderstorms. We leave his kennel door open for him but I guess he thought the closets were safer, which in a tornado warning that is exactly where he should go. Smart dog.

I had to send some cute pictures of him being goofy and rolling on the floor. He loves to roll. I also had to show off his perfect curl at the back of his head. I have never seen such a perfect curl on a dog. He has such thick nice fur. I love to give him bear hugs because he is so soft. If you want to meet Pooh Bear or want to know more about him email placementatragom [dot] org . I would love to tell you more about this great dog.

Hello everyone !! I finally get to do my own update. I am having a great time here at my foster home. I have sent pictures of me doing my two favorite things. Sunning on the deck and going for a walk. Foster mom does not get home from work fast enough. When she gets home I am waiting by my leash ready to go. Then she has to read the mail, change clothes, get shoes on. I tell her to hurry up but she makes me sit and wait.

I love to lay out on the deck. I will play with KC the other GR sometimes but mostly I just watch. We had a storm last week and I do NOT like storms. I knew it was coming before the lightning started and I had a hard time settling down. I pant and pace and want to chew on my blanket. I feel better when I am chewing on my blanket. Foster dad has given me two baths already and I don't mind too much. FM gives me lots of hugs and kisses when I am dry. She says I have nice soft fur.

I admit I like to get into a little mischief once in awhile but, hey, nobody is perfect. It is all in the name of fun, I am just playing. Besides, foster dad gets in more trouble then I do : ) Just like everyone else, I have a few bad habits but I have learned to deal with my foster families and they have learned to deal with mine.

I am hoping there is a perfect dog person out there for me. I have a lot of great years left and I would be a wonderful companion. I just want someone that will take me on walks and give me lots of belly rubs. I would also really like a deck or somewhere that I can chill outside. If you would like to meet me let placement know and we can meet you somewhere in the middle because Grand Forks is a long way away from anywhere.

Love
Pooh

Waiting to go for a walk

Pooh has been with us in Grand Forks since Sunday. We have been calling him Pooh Bear (I know, how original) because he is a big teddy bear. He weighs in at a whopping 90 pounds. He such a sweet mellow dog. He gets along great with the two resident dogs. He had his vet visit today and we got some bad news. Pooh is positive for Lyme's. We will be starting him on his pills tomorrow and he will have to take them for 30 days. Other than that and a few broken off teeth he is in great shape for a seven year old.

He has some strange resource guarding issues that we are working on. He guards his treasures, like socks and gloves. He gets really growly and snarly when you try to take them away. We have been working on trading his treasures for treats. It is getting better the more he is getting to know us and trust us. He is fine with toys and food, it is only things that he finds and that he thinks are treasures. I will keep you posted on his progress. I do believe that he can overcome this with training.

He does LOVE dog beds but not to sleep on. He sleeps on the cold hard wood floor in the office or in front of the front door where the draft comes in. He must think we keep our house too warm. We let him have free roam at night and during the day when we are at work. He shreds a few dog toys but nothing major. No messes.

He loves to have his belly rubbed and get petted. He snorts and grunts a lot too, especially when he is sleeping. He is going to be fun to foster. At this point, I wouldn't recommend him for a family with small children because of his guarding and his size. Pooh is a sweet older dog that will make a great companion. If you are interested in meeting Pooh Bear please email placement (placementatragom [dot] org)" rel="nofollow">placementatragom [dot] org)  and let them know.
