I don't know a lot about Rocky because he has been stuck in boarding for the past month and a half - so we need to watch his personality come shining through and I will just give you the highlights.

Rocky is a beautiful neutered 3 year old purebred Golden. He is very friendly and gets along with our dogs and cats. He is completely up to date on his shots and he is looking forward to the good life.

The bad news is that Rocky does have hip dysphasia and he will be going in on Monday for FHO surgery. But once this surgery is over he will be ready for the good life and for a home of his own.

Rocky will have lots of company in our house since we also are fostering Athena 08-132 and doing some doggy day care for Max 06-577. Rocky will also have three resident dogs to hang out with - Mistee Bubble, Sophee Bear and Coal.

Come and meet Rocky Saturday, March 29, at PetCo in Eden Prairie!

Updated pictures of Rocky!

Tuesday, April 1, 2008

Happy April Fool's day, I wish I was kidding when I said Rocky did not have one surgery yesterday – he had TWO. Yes you heard me – He had FHO surgery on the right and Denervation on the left hip. What does all this mean, it means that Rocky had major surgery on the right and minor surgery on the left – each operation is going to help with his hip dysplasia and will help him live a happy and full life. However, now he has a very bare butt. His whole hind end was shaved. Foster dad said I was not allowed to put pictures of his bare bottom on the internet, because people would laugh, so I am sending the discreet ones, we don’t want his wonderful ego damaged.

What we will do for the next two weeks is keep him quiet and keep him on his medication so he does not get an infection. Once the two weeks is over we will start taking slow walks and stretching these muscles to get him nice and strong. Not to worry, if you are looking at him as a possible forever dog, I have all the paperwork that will let you know what to expect. Really the only thing is he can never get overweight. He needs to always stay a nice and trim dog. He currently weighs 63 pounds and that is perfect!

A description of Rocky right now is, he had his whole hind end shaved, but they left his feet and tail still full of fur. Honestly, it is not real attractive, but the fur will grow back in a few short months and he will once again be gorgeous. Now let’s talk about “Rocky” the dog.

Rocky loves his humans, I do not believe he will need a fence, I think he just needs his people to love and trust him. He already knows the basic commands and is very careful around people. However, when he does get excited he will try to jump unless you correct him right away. He knows sit very well and walks incredibly on a GL. I mean I could drop the leash and just walk beside him, he is so good.

While Rocky gets used to his new house, he will need a safe place, he really likes Mistee Bubbles' house, it is a wire crate, but don’t tell her. She thinks it is her very own house. As for medications, Rocky is currently on an antibiotic, and 2 pain meds – he will be off the antibiotic and a pain med in a few short weeks, the other one will hopefully be taken off in a month or so. His joints will be watched carefully so he does not get stiff.

So now is the time to find Rocky his own home, could you be that lucky home? Please contact placementatragom [dot] org if you would like to meet this wonderful young man!

Rocky has graced us with his presence for a full 24 hours now – what a great dog. He loves to follow you around, thinks tennis balls are better than sliced bread and loves Mistee Bubbles crate. As you can see, I have included a picture of him hanging out in there. It is definitely his Safe Area. Of course, Sophee believes she should go in and lay with Rocky, but all seems fine when they are in it together as well as separate.

Rocky also met Max 06-557 today – Max is our Doggy Day Care dog that comes three times a week and spends some evenings with us. This weekend Rocky and Max will be hanging together a lot and I don’t think either of them mind at all. Both Max and Rocky think tennis balls are great and so much fun to play with.

Rocky is looking for his special family that will help him become the best dog around. His former family loved him deeply and was sad to let him go. They let him go because he needed hip surgery. A RAGOM volunteer (Rona) watches the HS page closely and was able to go and get him into RAGOM and now he will have his surgery on Monday – he will take awhile to heal, but really all he needs is love and support and he will be Golden.

Could you be that special family? Would you like to meet the love of your life in this Golden? He is so special! Come to PetCo tomorrow and meet us, we will be there with Max and Rocky – who knows, Athena and Sophee may come for the ride too!
