Cooper 08-117

09/03/2013:

We welcomed Cooper back into RAGOM’s care last week when he was returned because he had to move to an apartment and his owner could no longer care for him.

Cooper is a good looking, 6-year-old PB male Golden Retriever. He is UTD, neutered, microchipped, and VERY well-mannered. He weighed 57# at his wellness Vet visit last week and the Vet said he is at a good weight and shouldn’t put more weight on to prevent future problems with his hips.

When Cooper originally came into RAGOM at 10 months old, RAGOM paid for surgery on his left hip. At some point in his short life, one of his hips was seriously hurt and he did not receive any veterinary care for it. His surgery was successful and he can run but will never be a jogging partner.

Cooper is a real love bug! He loves being around people and loves to cuddle!! He met my 6- and 8-year-old grandsons with no problems and enjoyed the extra attention. I don’t know how he would do around cats because he is really interested in any animal that he sees… including a skunk we saw on our walk!

We were told Cooper doesn’t like the kennel and actually bit on the door and let himself out! The first day here he didn’t get much sleep because he had to follow me every time I got up from my chair. Now he just watches me when I walk out of the room, but he isn’t following me. Cooper has some separation anxiety when he is left all alone, without another dog or person home. His Surrendering Owner said he barked when left alone in the apartment. I have only heard him bark when someone came to the door. He will do best in a home where someone is home most of the time or there is another confident dog with him.

Cooper does not like thunderstorms and will hide under my bed if I am not here. He has not had an accident in the house and has not chewed anything that he shouldn’t. He nudges me when he has to go outside. Cooper is a very mellow dog and we enjoy having him with us! He will be a great addition to any family.
