Gunner 08-115

Profile

Gunner is a 5 yr old neutered male PB Golden Retriever. His previous owner had to move and couldn’t take Gunner with him. The owner was very emotional about giving Gunner up but wants him to have a GReat life.

After just a few days fostering Gunner, we know that he is very affectionate, loves being petted, and is eager to please. He’s very well behaved. He already has the run of our house while we are at work and has not done anything inappropriate. Gunner walks well on a leash with a Gentle Leader. He’s been to puppy obedience school and knows some commands but could use refresher obedience training. Gunner hasn’t displayed any aggression or resource guarding; he’s met both big and small dogs on walks and is friendly, but well mannered.

Gunner is a big boy at about 85 lbs, and he is a great dog. We are amazed at how well behaved, mellow, and easy going he is.

Gunner met a GReat couple over the weekend. On March 21st he will be going to his forever home where he will have 21 acres of land for his back yard! He will get all of the attention that he wants with no other dogs to compete with. We knew right away that this was a perfect match!

Gunner is doing great, he loves going for walks. He is friendly, gentle and well behaved when greeting other dogs and kids in the neighborhood. Gunner also likes walking at a nearby frozen wetland where he likes to sniff around cat tails and the deer, pheasant and rabbit tracks. His tail goes 90 miles a minute.

We’ve learned that he likes to play tug of war with people and our resident dog. He initiates the play often; he’ll bring over this old pair of socks that was turned into a tug of war toy and try to get you to take the other end.

He is very mellow and easy going, he sits and takes a bath with no problems and he especially likes the toweling and brushing part after the bath. Gunner rides well in the car, and doesn’t mind trimming his toenails, wiping his paws off when coming into the house, or getting drops in his ears.

We’re enjoying our time with him; this is a very loving and devoted dog.

Gunner went to the vet last night and he's in GReat health, no issues other than a mild ear infection that he got some drops for. He has nice teeth and is an appropriate weight for his size. He doesn't look that big to me but he tips the scale at 99 lbs! Our resident Golden is 78lbs. and Gunner is only a little larger. They get along great.

Gunner is very gentle and he just loves attention, being petted and getting his tummy rubbed. He is a cuddler and there is a lot to cuddle. He plays fetch and returns balls pretty well. He isn't a runner - more a Velcro dog, he sticks pretty close and follows us from room to room. He comes when called pretty well right now with a 30 foot training lead on him. After two weeks of refresher obedience training, I think he would be ready to be trusted under supervision without a leash.

He does like getting up on the furniture but will get down immediately if we tell him "off".

This is a sweetheart dog, and we are tempted to keep him for ourselves, but then we would have to give up fostering other dogs and right now we are finding the fostering rewarding.

If you aren’t hung up on his size, this guy has classic Golden looks and most importantly, the classic "Golden Personality".
