Fozzie (Ozzie 08-106)

Profile

Meet Ozzie. He is the newest member of the RAGOM family. He's a Golden Retriever/Border Collie mix but he looks all golden. He's a neutered, UTD, 20 month old full of typical puppy energy. He was surrendered by a loving family and you can tell he was very well loved and well taken care of in his previous home. He has had a month of professional obedience training and seems to know all the basic commands. He is house trained, crate trained, good with kids and other dogs. He met the dogs in his foster home and is getting along great with them. Our resident 9 month old puppy is also named Ozzy so we call them Ozzy one and Ozzie two. Both boys have lots of energy and they've been running around in the backyard almost non stop since they were introduced. Ozzie too really loves the snow.  Here he is rolling in snow and playing ball.  Isn't he cute?  I'm told he will play fetch for hours. He brings the ball right back to you and drops it in your lap. What a smart boy! More to come as we get to know Ozzie two.

RAGOM Friends,

This Monday, March 2, was the one-year anniversary of when we picked up Fozzie (originally "Ozzie", RAGOM #08-106) from his foster family in Minnesota. We just wanted to send a sincere "Thank You" to everyone with RAGOM who helped bring us together. Fozzie has been a great addition to our family! He is a little higher-energy than we would have chosen as first-time dog owners; a 30-45 minute walk seems to build up his energy, rather than drain it! But he is very smart and obedient, and quickly became a permanent member of our family.

Fozzie takes instruction from our boys (ages 10 & 7), walks well on a leash, is extremely treat motivated, gentle with kids, loves to play, and is very patient when I do things like dig in his ears, clean his paws, apply medications, or clip his nails.

His list of tricks include finding our boys by name, sit, lay down, stay, roll over, jump up and touch, high-five, kiss, play dead, shake, wave, get your tail, get your rope, and get your kong. He also rings a bell when he needs to go outside (or whenever he is bored!).

Some things we still need to work on include, being calm when meeting other dogs, leaving unattended food on the counter (only happens when he knows he is alone), and getting grass to grow in our back yard so he doesn't bring mud in every time it is wet!

Thanks again to all at RAGOM. While your main goal could easily be to simply find homes for dogs in need, we were most impressed by the way you went above and beyond to make sure we were a good match with Fozzie--exactly the service that we needed as unsure, first-time dog owners!

I forgot to mention what a great passenger Ozzie is in the car. He jumped right up in the Jeep for his trip to the vet and stayed quietly in the back seat the whole way. He let me clip his nails and clean his ears today (which were already very clean) without any complaints at all. He also loves to be brushed.  He is a great dog and will make some lucky family very happy.

Ozzie did very well at his wellness exam today.  He weighs 63 lbs which is just right for his size.  He is super healthy.  His ears look great, his teeth are perfect.  He was microchipped and is completely UTD on all his shots.  He can be a bit mouthy and likes to jump up to greet people.  We will continue to reinforce good manners at his foster home.  He shows no interest in getting up on the furniture, which is allowed at our house.  He will need a family committed to daily exercise and continued obedience training.  Ozzie is a happy, friendly, eager to please boy.  I think he would do well in any active home.  Did I mention he is absolutely gorgeous?  E-mail placementatragom [dot] org if you would like to meet this handsome boy.  I don't think he will be in foster care very long.
