Just a short update on the new guy... Duke!

I picked him up yesterday. He rode in the car a total of four and one half hours, after that we know he is great in a car... no whining, no drooling, no accidents. We stopped several times but he decided to wait until he arrived at his new foster home. Upon arriving he was met by my two resident dogs. Needless to say there was a lot of smelling, both by ours and by him with no problems, then checked out our yard. Next, into the house and start all over again finding out all the new stuff, from bones to toys. After about three times out he was comfortable enough to do his duty.

During the evening he went to the door several times and did his duty, and to our joy... no!!!! accidents inside. During the night he slept on the floor by our bed, he wanted to go out once. We think it was caused by nerves and drinking a lot of water. But no accidents!!!! As you can tell, we are happy about that.

So far he is just a big happy guy, well now for the bad news. He wanted to keep it a secret but he has a issue with weight. He will start his diet, and will be going on two-a-day walks. It will be good for him and his foster dad. Vet tomorrow, Feb. 25th, to get his physical, so more news after that.

Hi Everybody

Just a short update on Duke. He has been adopted!!! And is in his furever home [Sat].

I would like to talk to all fosters and people wanting to adopt. I get asked how I can get a dog, have him in our family and then give him up. I will use Duke as an example. He came to our home and we did not know a lot about him, other than the normal information.

When he arrived he fit in great, he was supposed to be an outdoor dog. Well, if you look at his new picture from Saturday, yes, this is the first day at his furever home!!!!!!!!!! You will see it didn't take long. I got an update from his new adopters the first morning, yes the first morning and they could not say enough good about him. I'm using this as a reason that I foster. Take a dog in and help them out, and then find a furever home. Yes it is hard to let them go, but there is another dog that needs our help. I have to tell myself that, every now and then to remind me the reasons we do this.

Well- on to another new dog for me, and then a furever home for him or her. Did I say thanks to RAGOM for all the work, time and effort put in for the dogs, and to the people that are not thanked enough.

Till next time,
Foster Jan

Hello All

After having Duke since 2/21/08, I feel I know more about him. For one he is a very loving guy, he has the wagging tail and meets you when you come in. He is supposed to be a mostly outside dog, only came in when cold out. Since being at our home, it took him about ten minutes to figure out inside was great. You all know - soft floor to lay on, toys and for him humans and other dogs. We have two resident dogs, an old multi-cultural [mutt], and border collie that he is now buds with.

Since we have had him at our home no accidents! He likes all people and dogs, has no issue with cats, He loves to go for walks and this also helps him lose the weight. He was 102 when we got him and he goes in tomorrow for a weigh-in and I'm sure it will be much better. He has no health problems, his teeth were cleaned and they turned out all white and healthy. No joint problems, the groomer said he would lose his winter fur but that has not started,so very minimal shedding.

His previous owner did a great job with Duke, raising him to like humans and enjoy life.

If you are looking for a laid back, loving dog, he is the one.
