Maggie arrived safely in the Twin Cities after a long drive in the snow. This beautiful, dark red girl was a stray found wandering the countryside near Rochester.  A good Samaritan rescued her and called RAGOM.

Her vet summary indicates that Maggie is about 10 years old.  She is a petite little gal, weighing in at about 55 lbs.  She's a little deaf, has a growth on her right eyelid, and her teeth look a little worse for the wear. Her coat is gorgeous, and now that she's had great bath and spa treatment, she can say it's burr and mat free. And oh so soft.

The meet and greet with my two dogs and two cats is an ongoing work in progress.  My resident male is a bit rude.  He tends to snark at strange dogs, and Maggie told him what she thought of his manners.  The resident female stayed true to her party girl ways and play bowed, romped and tried every trick she knew to show Maggie what a fun loving gal she is.  The cats watched it all unfold like muses in some ancient play.  After half a day of circling each other, and a couple of mis-starts, calmness reigns.  I was even able to snap a couple of pictures of the beginning of two great friendships.  Maggie and Cody 07-149 and Maggie and Woobs - the resident cat in charge.

More later as we get to know this special senior gal.

Maggie & I celebrated a milestone last week, she has been living with me for a whole year already.  We celebrated this past weekend with a little broasted chicken and a lot of attention.  She spent the holidays with a temp foster and 3 furry new friends and did very well. Thanks again Jennifer for taking such good care of Mags - I think she misses having a fenced yard to roam around in.    Maggie will be going to meet a family that is interested in making her a part of their family this weekend.  If everything works out and she does find her forever home I can honestly say that I will miss her terribly - she has really wormed her way into my heart.  She really is a sweetheart, she loves attention but isn't pushy about it.  Attached are a few pictures I took of her this weekend in the snow.

Maggie is doing just great!! She is really enjoying this cold weather and she has been practicing her snow angels in the leaves right now. Maybe by the end of the weekend she will have some snow to play in. I have attached some pictures of her taken in the last day or two. She is barking at the neighborhood boys in one of the pictures. She would rather them come and pay attention to her than play street hockey. She isn't quite sure why they would rather play with each other than come and pet her. She does have several kids along our walking route that always stop what they are doing and come over and pet her if they are outside. When they aren't out she slows way down when we pass their house, just in case they see her and decide to come out and pet her. Thanks again to her sponsers, the S's!

Maggie has really been enjoying our fall weather. She seems content to just lay out in the backyard and soak in the sun. We still go for our 2 walks a day, I'm sure that she would enjoy going for more but that is all the time I have.

Maggie would like a quiet home with or without another dog. If things get too busy around the house she just finds a quiet corner and observes. As you can see in previous pictures she is fine with cats, she sits with my 2 year old grandson (as long as he isn't running wildly around the house) and she does well with other dogs after she figures out that they won't hurt her. She has been with me for over 9 months now and except for taking a container of lasagna sauce off the counter she has not done anything unacceptable. She has never gone to the bathroom in the house, she shares her treats and food with the other dogs, she very seldom ever barks, she doesn't get on the furniture and she is just very easy to have around. Although if having a dog that you can go to the dog parks with and let them run free is what you want, Maggie would not be the dog for you however.

I plan on bringing her to the Senior Dog Day in Maple Grove next Saturday. So if you'd like to meet Maggie please come and check her out. She is an absolute love with a lot of love to give just the right family.

Maggie didn't make it to the picnic this past weekend, it would have been too much excitement for her, I think. She will try to be at the Senior Day next month when RAGOM showcases some GReat seniors. Maggie is doing really well, so nothing has changed except that she is acting more like a normal dog these days. Before she never begged, she wouldn't come up to be petted if either of my other dogs were in her way, but lately she has started to beg a little (not bad) and wants to be petted more than before. She even lets me know when she needs to go out now, always before she just held it until I let her out.

Her favorite pastime now that the weather has cooled off and isn't raining is hanging out in the backyard, just laying there watching the world go by and waiting for my neighbor to come outside and pet her. She & I still go out for 2 walks a day, she seems to not be as bothered by other dogs we come across as she was several months ago. She just snarks at them a little and keeps walking on by.

I'm attaching a couple pictures taken yesterday. She was helping my 2 year old grandson play 'trucks' in the eating area on a couple of them and also she was keeping her eye on the resident cat on the other. I'll try to find the pictures I took of her 'hanging out' in the backyard this past week and send those end tomorrow or the next day.

Thanks again to Maggie's sponsors - she appreciates the financial support but also all the good thoughts as well. The tumor on her eyelid that had been mostly removed has not reappeared at all and the tumor on her elbow hasn't grown since it was first noticed in February - GReat news!!!!! She is taking something for her thryoid, her arthritis and at the moment her allergies, nothing expensive or unexpected with an otherwise healthy senior. And she has the most adorable smile - remember she has lost most of her teeth so her smile is a little snaggle toothy.

Maggie went back to her permanent foster home this morning. She was the perfect house guest and she is welcome here anytime. She is a treat to have around and we will miss her.

I got some new photos of her taken so here they are. One of them is of her on her new favorite dog bed. We had an extra so we sent her favorite home with her today so she can keep enjoying it....

Thank you for reading up on her.

I could sit here and write about how wonderful Maggie is. And how she would be the perfect companion for any home. And how she just loves to be loved. But we've gone over that so many times that everyone this side of the Mississippi and beyond knows.

I want to write about how wonderful it is to have a senior girl with us. And how looking past any senior on the list of adoptive dogs simply because of their age is a mistake... Plain and simple.

Seniors may be just that; Seniors. And they may not have 10+ years left in this life. But what they do have is 100 years of love to give all rolled into what they do have left.

When you adopt a senior, you will take in a companion who has been around the block and has oh so many stories to tell you. They will sit by your side while you curl up for a good movie, or they'll sit with you at the end of the dock at your next golden sunset.

We've had 7 fosters now and Maggie is by far the easiest we've had. These golden Goldens are just that. From their soul to their coat, they have it all to give to you.

I hope you'll consider one for adoption.

Maggie sends out lots of love, hugs, kisses and thoughts of wisdom to her fans, friends and her loving sponsors.

I've attached some new photos of Maggie. I tried to get all artsie with a few... None the less, she is a happy girl. Isn't that what rescue is all about?

Thank you for reading of the adventures of her and her fellow senior RAGOM pups.

Maggie's enjoying her summer vacation here with us for the month of July. She is such an easy girl to care for. She has some perfect demeanor.

Last night after my soccer game my team came over for some beers in the garage. Maggie was so excited to meet everyone from the team and say hi to each person. She was a star....

Not much else new to report on this Golden girl with hopes of her very own forever home. She smiles all the time with her one-tooth grin. She wags her tail slow and steady each time you pet her. She has the softest red coat I've ever seen on a GR. She loves to say hello and meet all the neighborhood children. She seems to have a motherly way about her.

Thank you for reading up on her....

We have the distinct privilege of dogsitting Maggie again while her foster is on vacation. She stayed with us for a couple weeks at the end of February and she was the best houseguest. Needless to say she's off on the same track again here at our house.

It was a year ago yesterday that we took in our first foster with RAGOM. His name was Max and he was in boarding for 3 months before we took him in. Since then, we've had 7 fosters go thru our house and it is so neat to see and experience each of their personalities and traits.

Maggie is best described as a companion. She is just so easy going and easy to care for.

Maggie does so well with kids and cats and other dogs once she gets to know them and it is impossible to not fall for her charm and Golden girl ways.

If you'd like to meet her, email placementatragom [dot] org to set up the meeting that will melt your heart.

Thank you for reading up on her and following her journey.

So majestic

Easy-going girl

Happy girl

Hi everybody, this is Maggie writng. I want to extend a special 'Thank You' to my sponsors, the Savages. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

I can't believe how nice it is outside today, I have even spent some time just laying around the back yard enjoying the sun. Not much new in my world right now. I still enjoy my morning walks and a treat now and then. Last night someone let off fireworks close to my house when I was outside in the backyard - I quickly went into the house. Once in the house they didn't bother me at all, I just didn't like being outside with those loud noises.

Here is a picture of me enjoying the sun this afternoon. Wouldn't I look pretty laying in your back yard? I'm really easy to have around. I seldom bark, I never have an accident in the house, I don't chew anything inappropriate and I don't require very much exercise. Sometimes my foster mom has to go looking for me - I'm so quiet, she usually finds me on one of the dog beds or laying in the extra bedroom. I sometimes just need to get away from the little yippy dog and have time to myself. I don't even mind the foster mom's grandson, 21 months, giving me hugs and kisses. I do get up and find a quiet corner if he is running around though.

If I seem like the special friend that you have been looking for, please email placementatragom [dot] org and let them know. I really would like to find a forever home....not that I don't like it here, but I know that it isn't forever.

Maggie's foster mom picked her up this morning so her brief stay with us is over. However, she will always have a big spot in our hearts. Maggie has been a perfect pup while here. She came out of her shell and really started to have fun here and play with me in the snow. She has the cutest way of playing where she runs away from you a few feet, then turns around and comes running back at you while play bowing and doing a small play growl. It's put the biggest smiles on my face to see her so happy.

Maggie shocked us the other night. We were in the kitchen and so was resident Lucy. We heard a noise in the living room that we knew was too loud to be one of the cats. We looked around the corner and Maggie had made her way up onto the ottoman. She must have been taking a cue from Lucy as this is Lucy's favorite spot to rest. We don't mind if our dogs are up on the furniture, but we didn't think Maggie had an interest in it. So it was a pleasant surprise and we really realized how comfortable she has become here.

If you are looking for a sweet, loveable senior Golden that is very easy going and easy to care for, then Maggie is the girl for you. Her coat is a deep red that nearly glows in the sunrise and sunset as you have seen in some of her photos. Her coat is thick and very soft and she is such a pretty girl with deep, soulful eyes.

Maggie truly is an angel. I really believe there is a forever family out there somewhere and she is willing to wait for that kind family to step forward and love her unconditionally. I guarantee you will receive that love back from Maggie ten-fold. Please give her that home to call her own.

Email placementatragom [dot] org to set up a meeting with this kind soul.

Thank you again to her sponsors. She is sending you lots of hugs and love. I'm sure you can feel it in your heart.

Thank you for following Maggie's adventures.

We have three more nights with this stunningly beautiful girl with the most golden of hearts. Maggie is a tremendous pup with nothing but love to give and smiles to put on your face. Every moment with her is a treat.

Maggie often asks us when her forever family will be here. She waits patiently because she knows the right family is out there that is willing to give her a shot at her golden days and golden life.

She is sweet, easy going, loves to go on walks, loves to strut around the yard, loves to be with you and get pets from you. She is a total dream to have in our family. She would love a chance to show you how she well she would fit in with your family and love you to the end of days. Maggie is a true angel. She has been thru alot and she still has nothing but love in her eyes.

She would love to meet you and make you your own personal snow angel. But you have to hurry, because the snow won't be around much longer. Email placementatragom [dot] org to set up a visit with Sweet Maggie the happy-go-lucky golden girl.

Thank you for reading up on her and thank you again to her sponsors. I personally want to thank you for giving this girl a chance. She is grateful for it in every way.

We've never fostered a senior Golden before. And we never really knew what to expect. We were told Maggie was easy going and laid back.

Well, we've had her for 6 days now, and my admiration and love for the seniors has really grown. Maggie is so kind and gentle and sweet. She loves to just kick back and enjoy life and not let things worry her. I think I saw a book out there once where the title was something like 'All the wonderful things we can learn from our dog'. This is truly evident with Maggie. I bet there are many life lessons she could teach anyone. How to love would be at the top of the list.

Sure, Maggie is getting up there in age, and sure she had cancer and it will likely return. But who knows if that will be 2 days, 2 weeks, or 2 years or more from now. Regardless, Maggie deserves a loving home to call her own where she can spend the rest of her life enjoying her afternoon naps, her frolicking and trotting in the yard and making her snow angels.

She still gets around really well and her sight is great.

Maggie often has this lonesome, wondering look in her eyes. It saddens me that this wonderful Golden girl does not have a home to call her own. She was found as a stray when she came to RAGOM, but it's quite obvious that she once had a family that loved her and that she loved tremendously. Maggie just wants that chance again. Could you be that family for her?

As mentioned, we are dogsitting Maggie while her foster mom is on vacation. We have one more week with her. We will cherish it greatly.

Thank you again to Maggie's sponsors - she sends you love, hugs and kisses.

And thank you for reading up on Maggie. Please contact placementatragom [dot] org if you'd like to meet and consider adopting this charming Golden girl, Maggie.

Below is a new picture of her with our resident, Lucy. They get along great.

What a precious girl. Maggie has been with us for 3 days now and has already stolen our hearts. She is so docile and gentle. She just wants to be loved and return the love. She is very laid back and is content with several afternoon naps while we are away at work.

Maggie has free roam of the house. She is very well behaved. Her eye has healed up nicely and her hair around that area has almost fully grown back.

We have to keep in mind that Maggie's hearing is not the best. She startles easily when she's sleeping and you go to pet her without her knowing it. It just wakes her up and she looks and goes back to her doggy dreams.

She has really shown some lively moments the last couple days with short bursts of interest in playful energy. It is sooooo joyful to see. It nearly brings a tear to my eye to go along with my big smile...

Her coat is so soft and so red. See the new pics of her taken at sunset. Simply stunning.

Maggie is so lucky to have great sponsors helping out with her care. Without them she would not be the happy puppy she is.

Maggie's eyes are so telling. We can just see the wisdom and her lifelong experiences in them like the proverbial windows to the soul. She reminds me of the wise old type of characters you see in movies.

She and Lucy get along great. She gets around well and sees great. We are very lucky to have sweet Maggie with us.

If you'd like to experience everything I've explained and meet her for possible adoption, let placement know at placementatragom [dot] org.  Or even if you'd like to just see how gentle this girl is, let them know. She loves to meet people.

Thank you again to her sponsors and thank you for reading up on this wonderful pup.

Sunday, February 24, 2008

We have the honor of dogsitting Maggie for a couple weeks while her foster mom is on vacation.

We've had her here for just a few hours now and she is just the sweetest girl. She's no young pup, but she will steal your heart. She will have free roam of the house while we're gone and sleep with us in our bedroom.

She has been pacing a bit nervously, but that's to be expected with arriving in another new home for her. I'm sure she'll be all settled in by tomorrow.

She and resident Lucy defined their status with each other quickly and have been fine together since. Maggie has no real interest in our 3 cats.

Her foster mom is excited that we have a fenced in yard. Maggie loves to just wander around back there and explore. She likes to hang out outside. Hopefully the cold weather won't return so she can spend lots of time out there.

We've got some new photos of this Golden girl.

Email placementatragom [dot] org if you have an interest in meeting sweet Maggie.

Thank you to Maggie's generous sponsors, Paul and Paula Savage!

Here's Maggie making 'Snow Angels' in the backyard, hanging out in the snow, and Maggie with my 17 month old grandson - Will is giving Maggie kisses (his way).

This photo was taken the day after Maggie's surgery.  Thanks to many RAGOM volunteers and their ideas, I now am able to give her all the pills that she is supposed to have.  So she is definitely on the mend.  She insists on her twice daily walks again and is back eating everything in her bowl.  She will be meeting a prospective family this weekend, I wish her luck but if and when she gets adopted I will certainly miss her.  She has wormed her way into my heart in just a short time.  Thanks again to Maggie's sponsors, the Savage's - thanks to you, she's doing GReat!

Maggie came through her dental surgery with a few less teeth than she went in with. Maggie had already been spayed, so Dr. J was able to concentrate on Maggie’s sore mouth. Dr. J had to remove two of Maggie’s canines because they were broken and the nerve canal was exposed. She also extracted broken incisors. Two canines will still need to be removed and with luck that will be done when Maggie’s eye lump is removed in January. Dr. J also removed a small lump from Maggie’s side. The results of the lump aspiration looked suspicious and Dr. J felt that it should be biopsied. Let’s keep our fingers crossed that the lump is benign.

The good news is Maggie’s kidneys are working fine based on the sample I gathered for the vet this morning. Since she didn’t have to have the spay surgery, I can even pick her up this afternoon and get one last night with her before she moves on to her new foster tomorrow morning. It’s been a real pleasure taking care of this special senior girl.

My heartfelt thanks go out to Maggie’s sponsors, Paul and Paula Savage. Maggie sends you her extra special body wiggle and tail wag that she reserves especially for her favorite folks!
