Jake/Jack 07-673

Profile

Introducing Mr. Jake. An approximately 7 year old Golden Retriever that has come into RAGOM as a stray. Jake was neutered today (Thursday) and I will be picking him up tomorrow and then he will have a warm place at our home to recover. I visited him today and brought him a soft stuffed animal that he can rest his head on and he did just that! He is approximately 55 pounds, but I could feel his ribs and backbone, so we will work on getting him fattened up. He is a dark red handsome guy with a slightly graying face. Of course he was groggy, but he looked at me with his sweet eyes and I told him that I would be back tomorrow so he just needed to rest and before he knew it, he would be “onto the good life”.

We will be at PetCo in Maple Grove on Saturday, December 15th. We will be there around 11:00 and stay as long as Jake is comfortable.

Jack is doing really GReat! He is the perfect house guest. He has never done anything inappropriate while we are gone.

Jack does have mild storm anxiety. We’ve had Jack thru a couple thunder storms now and as of last night, a July 4th celebration. There was one thunderstorm where he was a little nervous, but he was just fine when he laid under the desk. Last night was the 4th of July. The vet suggested we give him a couple Benadryl to take the edge off his nerves before the fireworks started. We did and he sat on the grass with us during the fireworks, stayed right there and was acting normal.

Jack also takes a very low dose of Phenobarbital to prevent seizures, a half a pill morning and night. We put the half pill in with his food and he eats it without a problem. The Phenobarbital pill costs 4 cents per day. He has not had a seizure since going on this medication.

The only other health issue is that he has a permanently blocked tear duct for his left eye. It is a little wet by that eye, but it doesn’t bother him, and the vet said to not worry about it.

This is a really sweet, well behaved, mellow dog. He comes when called, loves walks, going for boat or car rides.

He’s very affectionate and bonds quickly. Jack loves being petted, and leans into you and closes his eyes while you are petting him.

Jack is a very sweet, well-behaved 7 year-old, with a graying face, and a beautiful red coat with some curls. He has such a sweet face and loves to be petted. Jack was originally found as a stray in December 2007, and was adopted within weeks. Unfortunately his new owner lost her job and had to surrender him back to RAGOM. Jack also suffers from storm anxiety and is on phenobarbital for mild seizures and has not had one since being medicated. He is a perfect dog except for the storm anxiety, which we are working through. Being afraid, he paced back and forth, and tried to hide from the thunder by crawling under the desk. As long as he has a small light on and a small den-like area where he can crawl into, he feels safer during the storm.

Jack has already earned complete run of the house with our resident dog while we are both at work during the day. He is completely house trained and has not done anything inappropriate while we are gone. He weighs 60 pounds which is the perfect weight for his smaller size and is in good health. If you are looking for a Velcro dog that is great with kids and cats, and just wants to please, come meet Jack. Contact placementatragom [dot] org and let them know that you are interested in meeting Jack.
