Sebastian 07-629

Profile

Sebastian came into RAGOM skinny, naked and shaved.  Dogs do not live in the past, so this foster mom, will endeavor to do the same.  What Sebastian lacked in the past, will be supplied threefold.  He is a 10 yr old, neutered, UTD on vaccinations, Golden Retriever.

Forgetting his past, I will keep you posted from today forward.  He seemed to enjoy being bathed, ignored nail trimming, and unconcerned having matted fur cut from him 'private parts'.  While at Petco, a little girl about 3 yrs old came up to him and planted a big kiss on his nose!  As I was holding a 38 lb bag of dog food, this meeting was out of my control.  As she left, Sabastian wanted to follow her.  He passed that test!

Coming into a home with 2 resident Goldens could have been intimidating.  However, the blended family blended immediately.  Ms Alpha resident even cleaned his ears.  He will visit the vet next week for teeth cleaning, an exam and heartworm test.

Sebastian settled into the routine around here.  He and my residents have run of the house during the day.  He has proven to be house trained and enjoys napping on his new bed.  Did I mention that Sebastian is HUGE?  Ok, this will help.  He is 85 lbs and has room for 20 more pounds!

Although I walk him on leash, he doesn't need one.  He keeps his head touching me every step we take.  That will feel good when it gets really cold!  There will be pictures coming so that everyone can see how this precious, gentle giant is growing.  The hair and weight can't come soon enough.

Boy, have I been having fun with the Christmas preparations!  Foster Mom got me this really dumb hat, but she thinks it looks good on me.  You can judge for yourself, as I am sending one of her pictures.

My coat is starting to fill in and it feels good not to be so cold all the time.  FM still puts my jacket on me when I go outside.  Yesterday, I went to Petco to have my picture taken, along with my resident friends.  Santa tried to get all of us to smile, but we were too busy looking at all of the other dogs and puppies.  What a busy day.  We all went to bed early while FM put some colored lights around the house.  She said that was part of the Christmas preparation.

Before I go to bed at night, I listen to her stories of why we celebrate Christmas.  FM has promised me the BEST gift for Christmas.  I can hardly wait to find out what it will be.  My only wish is a fur-ever family.

Happy Holidays friends,

Sebastian

Sebastian had his blood tests and everything is within 'normal' range.  His teeth were all saved as they just needed a good cleaning.  So we have one very healthly senior here!  His weight gain is slow.  As of yesterday, he has gained 4 1/2 pounds in 2 weeks.  Our vet said that a gradual gain is best, so as not to overload his system.

This is just a perfect dog!!!  Sebastian never forgets to show how much he appreciates this new life.  His tail gently wags when he is getting 'his' attention.  Although there is not a lot of fur yet, he still gets a daily grooming session.  And he has learned about belly rubs.  Chew toys are possessions that are to be carried around and make wonderful pillows.

With the cold weather, he waits until I put on his jacket...a gift from his RAGOM friend, Sue.  The sweaters are so hard to get on, but again he will sit down until I can get this leg up, that leg through, this thing over his head, etc.  How many dogs do you know that would enjoy getting dressed?!

Just one week ago today, Sebastian and I met. He was soooo sad and just soaked up the attention he had gotten from RAGOM transport volunteers. Today it is hard to remember what a pathetic sight he was.

As he is so tall, his new bed (a gift from my sister) is big enough for Sebastian to stretch out and not slide off! After a good night's sleep we all feel better. He is eating 3 meals per day and has gained a few pounds. This week he will get the much needed dental work and that should make him more comfortable when eating.

Sebastian shows no signs of anxiety or fear...except the slippery kitchen floor. Several rug runners fixed that problem. His gait is quite regal. Those long legs seem to float through the air. He is a well-worn 10 year old with manners and a heart of GOLD.
