10/2/07: This past weekend the hotline received a call about a dog near Bismarck, ND, who had an "abscess" on her neck, was losing weight, not feeling well, and needed urgent medical attention.  Her name was Jasmine and she was 15 months old.  Yesterday, several wonderful RAGOM transport volunteers came together to move her 440 miles to the Twin Cities where she could receive medical care.  As soon as she was picked up it was apparent that she was in bad shape.  X-rays revealed a large tumor in her chest cavity as well as pneumonia, both of which were significantly impacting her ability to breathe.  Her physical condition was rapidly deteriorating.  After consulting with the vets at the U of MN it was determined that Jasmine would not be able to leave the hospital to receive in-home hospice care and we helped her to cross the Bridge this afternoon (after she enjoyed 2 hamburgers for lunch).

Jasmine was a quintessential Golden who was happy to see anyone who walked into her exam rooms and would reward you with tail wags and adoring eyes if you spent some time rubbing her ears and sweet-talking her.  Despite what was surely an enormously uncomfortable and painful condition, she never once was grouchy with the veterinarians who examined and cared for her.  She was a beautiful girl with a heart of Gold.

Thank you to all of the RAGOM volunteers who helped Jasmine.
