I got out of the shelter after having been there for months. When I left the shelter everyone was upset I was leaving telling me what a sweetie I am. They assured me that they have no idea why my owners just dumped me after owning me for years. When my vet was contacted he was surprised as well. But I know now that I’m going to get great care from here on out and I am only five years old.

I’ve been a real good listener since I’ve been here. They were surprised that I know the basic commands and all I want is to please. I slept great the first night. I’ve been adjusting quite well for the first couple of days. There was a storm last night but I was just fine because I know my fosters are caring for me. Their resident dog, Skoey, is welcoming as well. Skoey’s been sharing his toys with me and I am careful to respect Skoey. Can you believe that their dog has a toy box? It is unreal how they treat me here. And boy do I love those treats they give me!

The only thing I need work on right now is barking at strangers. They don’t like that. I’ve been barking at the neighbors and I bark when someone knocks on the door, but geez, I’m not sure who everyone is. I’m just scared, that’s all. My fosters say that they are going to put a stop to the barking immediately. I wouldn’t hurt a soul. I just like being heard. But it’s something I need to work on.

Well, I need to go here. They are giving me a bath because after being dumped at the shelter for months I do need one. And I can’t wait and then I’ll do some REAL cuddling!

Hey everyone…… Harper Mae here.

News flash: I have a forever home!!!! The K family came to visit me (with treats and a brand new frog that Clohe stole!) and as always I was on my best behavior. Other than a couple times when Clohe instigated trouble, I am usually like that. Unfortunately a couple times she lured me in! However FM told them everything about me. ALL THE GOOD and just a few bad… They STILL wanted me. So I feel extremely blessed to be a part of their family and hope to see you all at the picnic in September. It might just be my new Mom and me but that’s ok. Just the girls. I look forward to seeing all my RAGOM friends who care so much for me. Thanks Cheryl. You and Finn will always be special to me too!

I think I won the lottery!!!!

Hey everyone…… Harper Mae here.

I decided to write my own update. I have lain at FM’s feet for a week now so I think I have the know how on how this works. Here goes:

I am a really easy girl to have around. I LOVE all other dogs, and have yet to meet one that I did not like. In fact, if they don’t want to play, I ask FM to intervene and “make them play with me”. She just tells me to move on. I met some cats yesterday at a RAGOM home visit and I did fine. I did get in the garbage once but only because FD left it on the chair in the kitchen. I only tore holes in the top of the bag, nothing more then that. Never have I touched it in the cupboard (WHERE IT BELONGS FOSTER DAD!!!!) I bet I never get that opportunity again. I walk well on a leash. When I get excited FM makes me sit next to her and wait. I do this well. I do love my walks. I also am pretty Velcro and at the same time like to be cool. I follow FM everywhere and then lie in front of the vent where that nice cold air comes out. It feels so wonderful!! I sometimes like to put my paws in there. Lots of cold air for me, not too much for anyone else. I now will get on the couch if I am invited. I never do this when I am left alone. FM knows because she sets little traps for me, but never have I caved. I have a couple times jumped on the bed to look out the window when FM goes in the yard. She saw me too! BUSTED!!

Clohe and I are now starting to play. We had a game of tug yesterday. She is really strong but I think I could have won. I let her have it.

I really like it here but I guess I need to have my own home. I adjust quickly and soon I will feel like I have lived there forever.

Harper continues to do well in fostercare. We made it through the 4th of July without too many issues. While she did not like the noise she seemed to find comfort in just being closer to us. At one point, I found her standing in the tub! It was hysterical. She actually had an impact on resident, Clohe. She too seemed a little calmer than in the past.

She enjoys her nightly walks. I am not using a Gentle Leader and she does well for the most part. She is very excited when we come upon other dogs. I stop, make her sit and wait. She knows the drill now and does well. She does get a little fixated on bunnies and squirrels. I do not think she would be a good candidate for invisible fencing.

She seems to love all dogs. We have not met one yet that she would not have liked to play with.

She has free roam of the house and does not get up on the furniture. If you invite her up, she will gladly accept. She sleeps on the bedroom floor and does not move an inch.

She’s a great girl and will be a great addition to any family.

Pretty girl!

I love Mr. Hedgehog.

Is that his leg I'm pulling on?

Mom.............. Harper is pulling on his leg again!

Harper is a very well adjusted happy girl. Her heartworm test came back negative but her fecal tested positive for roundworms. That’s an easy fix. She will get another dose of medicine in 2 weeks and that should take care of it. YAY for being heartworm free!!!!

Harper has free roam of the house with Clohe when we are gone. They seem to be uneventful days. The house is just like I left it when I come home. However Harper is quite the comedian and now when she hears us open the garage door, she searches frantically for some stuffed toy to show us. Clohe has MANY so it is never a problem but after showing us what she has, she immediately runs over to her water dish and dunks it. She will then take it out (DRIPPING WET) and show you. You would think we could get to her before she does it but we have yet to master that. She is always one step ahead of us! We wring them out a little bit and put them on the step to dry. However just when one gets dry, she dunks another one so the line up never decreases. If you ask her if she did it, she turns her head, looks away and then we really laugh! She’s looking for a place to park her soaked toys. If that could be you, email placementatragom [dot] org.  She’s the “Whole Package”!!!

Harper! Did you do that?
Look me in the eye if you did. NOT A CHANCE!

Some of the toys we have "drying out"

Harper Mae has been returned to RAGOM through no fault of her own. She was adopted by an elderly woman whose health has taken a turn for the worse and she is no longer able to care for her. So we welcomed her back and she has fit in like she has lived here forever.

Harper is a 5 year old female that weighs 68 pounds. Her weight is perfect but she should not gain any more. We are working on taking a couple pounds off. I have changed her food to a better quality light version which has more fiber. One of her anal glands was full today so hopefully with more fiber in her food and a little ALL Bran cereal added to it, it should correct itself. She should be checked in a month to make sure. It will also help her skin and coat as right now it is just a little dry.

Harper is very content to lie around but also enjoys her car rides and daily walks. I have been walking her about a mile a day. It seems that she has gotten a little out of shape but it will not take long at all for her to bounce back as she is eager when that leash comes out. She enjoys the company of other dogs but has not initiated play with Clohe, our resident dog. I think she would like to but Clohe has not given the “green light”. Harper is quite content to play with toys and hang out with Foster Mom and Dad. She loves to be outside and watch the squirrels and birds. Given the chance, I am sure she would be quick to engage in a game of chase.

Harper is ready to go to her forever home. If you think you can give her the love and stability she needs, feel free to email placementatragom [dot] org and express your interest. I cannot believe she will be around for long.
