Barney 07-569

Profile

Barney arrived 9/21/07, coming from a rural Rescue/Shelter 50 miles away. What a sweet guy Barney is. He's a stocky strong boy. Barney had no problem sleeping the first night at his new Foster Home. He and Zoe slept on my bedroom floor all night. He loves belly rubs, playing ball and going for walks. I have taken him and my girl Zoe (was Amber 07-222) for several walks around the block and today we went to the local park. Turns out Barney likes the water. He's tried to take a dip in my little backyard fish pond, which now has a fence around it. Barney is house trained and has no aggression issues. He will pick up his food or water dish and carry it around when he thinks it needs to be filled, so cute. He gets along with other dogs, has lived with cats and he hasn't chased the backyard birds away. Barney does pull on his lease at times, so I'm working with him on that. He has some growths on his ears, and one on an eyelid so I will have those looked at when he sees the Vet this week. He is UDT on his shots, but he does have to be neutered. Barney is just a sweety and will do well in a home with other dogs or being the only dog and he likes children. I will update again after his Vet Appointment.

It is with a sad and broken heart that I have to tell you that Barney has gone to the Rainbow Bridge. Shortly before my last update Barney had started to lose weight and a tumor was found near his spleen. His health went down hill so fast after his diagnosis and I made the very difficult decision to have Barney go peacefully with family by his side. Zoe (Amber 07-222) gave him a kiss on top of his head that morning, it was so heart warming. These Goldens are so truly special and we are the lucky ones to have them in our lives. I miss having to do bowl hunts at meal time and wiping up spilled water from Barney picking up the water bowl to carry around.

Thank you RAGOM for bringing Barney into our lives. We miss him dearly.

From Barney's forever family...

Thought it was time to send in an update on my Barney. Barney came into our lives first as a foster dog in September 2007 and he became an official member of our family the following Spring, but he had stolen our hearts right from the start.

Barney is such an easy going senior Golden. He and Zoe 07-222 get along just great. They have tried playing tug of war together but Barney is so strong and he wouldn't think of giving up the rope so poor Zoe has to give in every time. Barney has been a joy to have and great company for Zoe. He loves to go for walks at the park, car rides and watching Mom work in the yard. Oh and taking naps.

Sweet ol Barney is a big huggable lovebug and we love him! Thank you RAGOM.

Here's Barney saying  "Ahhh Mom, it's only grass, let me in please"   This will be my last update on Barney.  I have decided to make him a permanent member of our little family and adopt him.  I tried not keeping my very first Foster Dog, but my heart won out.  Barney will have his sweet doggie Sister Zoe to play with, a big yard to roll around in and I don't mind going on a dog bowl hunt when it's dinner time.  It's just one of the little things about Barney that makes me smile.

Thought I better update Barney's page since it has been a month since the last one. I've included a couple pictures of Barney doing some of his favorite things, like chewing on rawhide bones and rolling around in the grass. Some days he and Zoe look like haystacks coming into the house. I have to quick catch the two of them at the door and take them back out to get all the winter grass off. I think I'm picking up just as much dried grass as dog hair these days. Barney continues to do well just hanging out with foster sister Zoe and foster sister Emmy the parrot. They all get along so well. I think the dogs are happy about the warmer sunnier days we've been having. They actually want to stay outside for a while and lounge in the Sun. Barney is such a sweet happy dog. He would be a great addition for a family that wants an older, more laid back guy. I'm happy to report that he hasn't eaten a dog toy in while, yea! Thanks for checking out his page.

Hello, Barney's FM here.  I'm sending a couple more pictures of this sweet boy.  As you can see, yes I bought Barney a purple bowl.  Poor guy.  But he doesn't mind and still likes to move the bowls around the house.  And at meal time we get to go on a bowl hunt.  Barney has lost 10 pds total since he's arrived and he is looking mighty handsome.  Barney and Zoe have been helping FM with her exercises in the morning.  It's a little more challenging to do crunches with 2 goldens laying on your stomach, ha!  Thanks for checking on Barn Barn and if you'd like to meet this sweet fellow please contact placement and we'll arrange a meeting.

Thought I'd send in some new pictures of pretty boy Barney.  He went to the groomer on Tuesday and he looks so handsome.  And he feels so silky!  Both he and Zoe did so well I'm told.  I tried to get a good picture of the two of them with their bandanas on, but Barney doesn't like to pose for pictures.  The little stinker.  We've just been hanging out, waiting for Spring.  We finally received some snow for the dogs to play in and Barney thinks the snow tastes pretty good.  He is ready to find his "Forever Home" and even though he is being fostered in South Dakota, we can do some traveling if you'd like to meet Barney.  He is such a sweet boy.

Barney here  ** Happy New Year! **  Thought I'd better send this update since my Foster Mom has been too busy to do it.  We had a real nice Christmas with a bunch of different doggies coming to visit.  First was my FM's nephew's dog, he's a young pup, full of energy.  Mom says he's so cute, he's part Shepherd and Husky.  He can jump straight up real high.  I don't do that anymore, I like my four feet on the ground.  FM tried to get a picture of the three of us being gated out of the kitchen, all three of us standing at the baby gate with wide eyes pleading for turkey.  But by the time the camera was ready, we had moved away, we do that a lot to Mom.  Next came my FM's Sister and her family to stay with us.  That was so much fun.  Kids to play with, (or doggy slobber on, ha!).   First thing I did was find a new Christmas toy, an octopus, and chew a leg off.  I didn't know there was a difference between kids toys and my toys, oops. They brought along their Collie for me to visit with.  He's about my age I think.  He likes to chase squirrels, I don't chase squirrels, I just watch em.  We all got along just fine.  The day they left my FM's other Sister brought over her Parrot (just like the one that lives here) and her German Shepherd for my FM to babysit for a few days.  Sundance the GSD is a big girl, bigger than me.  She's a tad bit older than me I think. All of us have gotten along real well, even with the Parrots.

I tried something new,  I got into the big garbage because I could smell good things in there.  FM doesn't like it when I do that.  She's no fun!

So that's about it for the news.  I'm doing really well.  Grandma just came to visit and I gave her so much love at the door she had a hard time coming in.  I just love getting all the attention they give me.  I'm still looking for my "Forever Family".  A yard with a fence would be nice but I do like being with my people.  A home that doesn't have many stairs as I am getting up there in age and I like to be in the same room with you.  I do bark to be let back in, but I don't usually bark at other doggies or things outside.  If you think you are interested, let placement know.  I've been told I'm a sweety and quite the character.  Below are a couple pictures of me and my foster sister Zoe.  I like rolling in the snow.  That's all for now.

I thought I should update you on Barney, it has been a few weeks. Barney received a checkup at the Vets while his foster sister Zoe had her nails trimmed. He is doing just fine and he has lost 4 pounds since his arrival, yea! Barney and Zoe had a visitor today to play with. My sister brought over her female German Shepherd and everyone got along just fine. They did a lot of looking in through the sliding glass doors wanting in, silly dogs these older pooches are.

I'm including some pictures I attempted to take for a Christmas Card of the dogs. Barney was not sitting still for any of them except for the one with the dish. It was quite comical trying to get the two together. I think Zoe has done this before, but not Barney, he wouldn't have it. So anyway I tried.

Barney says he likes hanging with his foster family but he is also ready to find his forever home. Barney is a real easy going dog and would make a wonderful addition to your family. If you think you'd like to meet Barney please contact placement.

Here are the pictures I promised of Barney helping with all the raking I had to do.  A good time was had by all.  It is suppose to be nice and warm this weekend, so we should be getting in some more quality Walk-in-the-Park time before Turkey Day.   BarnBarn (my nickname for him) is laying near by as I do this update.  He likes to be in the same room with you, he's a sweetie.   I think I'll treat both Barney and Zoe to a bath this weekend.  There's been a lot of rolling around in the dry grass and leaves by both of them.  Now that should be fun!

Barney has settled in nicely in our little family. He's such an easy going dog. Barney and Zoe helped me rake leaves today. I will have to send pictures of that on my next update. The "Kodak" moments always seem to happen when the camera is not close by. Barney continues to do well healthwise. His ears are clearing up finally, but with these Goldens it seems to be a frequent condition. Barney is just one big ol' lovebug. He'll give you a little kiss on your hand when you let him in the house. Barney says he's ready to visit with a family that is interested in making him a part of their family. He is ready to find his forever home.

Thought I better update you on Barney, it's been a little over a week since we last checked in.  Barney is doing great.  We received the results of his biopsy and it turned out it was just a simple fat lump, nothing to worry about, whew!  He's recovering nicely from all he had done on his last vet visit.  He's completing a round of antibiotics he's been taking for the tooth he had taken out.  He had his stitches taken out on Monday, and he was such a trooper.  Taking the stitches out on the eyelid was somewhat touchy, poor guy.  Barney doesn't really like to have drops put in his eyes or ears, so I'm gently trying to get him use to it.  He will let me clean his ears, but he really doesn't like me getting the tube out for the ear medicine.   Barney and Zoe (07-222) are getting along just fine.  They haven't really wrestled yet, they are still testing the waters as far as what they can do with each other, I think tug-of-war may be soon.  The two are really easy to walk with together.

Barney appears to have a bit of arthritis at times.  A lot like his Foster Mom.  Every once in a while he will need a little boost to get in the backseat of the car.  And when I come home from work, he doesn't always hear me come in.  Just little signs of his senior status.  Barney is just a big ol teddybear.  He loves getting belly rubs and chewing on toys.  We'll be going to the park this weekend while the weather is still nice.  So many places to sniff, and not enough time.  If Barney sounds like a good match for your home let us know.

Barney had his Neuter surgery on Monday and all went well. He had one tooth that needed to be extracted and growths taken off both eyelids. One lump was removed below an ear and sent in for biopsy. We should find out the results of that this week. They also trimmed his nails while they were at it, how nice.

Barney was happy to get back to his foster home and his girl pal Zoe (07-222). They are quite the pair. If I pet one I have to pet the other. Belly rubs are always a group affair. They haven't really played together yet, but it's still too soon for that I think, considering they are both senior dogs. They will pick up each others toys if left alone for a second too long, but they get along really well. Zoe eats faster than Barney so she thinks she should be able to go over and help him finish his meal, but Barney let her know with a little growl that he doesn't like to eat out of the same bowl. That has only happened once and there hasn't been any snarling. Barney is just a big sweet Teddy Bear really and he has started to give me kisses. He usually sleeps in my room at night on the floor next to the bed.

Barney and Zoe get to go for a walk every morning and evening. It's been pretty easy walking the two of them together. Barney will need a little bit of training, as he will pull when he wants to go to a certain spot and sniff. He is a strong boy. Most of the time though it's a nice easy walk. He's really friendly with children and other dogs and he totally ignored the cats at the Vet's office. Barney rides really well in the car, doesn't get car sick and will usually just lay down until the car stops. I have come out of the store to find him sitting in the drivers seat looking like he wants to drive. I need to get a picture of that! So I've started to block the area between the front seats so he can't do that, just to be on the safe side. Barney has been a treat to have in our home. He's a big luv bug and would be a wonderful dog for a family with a fenced yard. Barney is now ready to find his forever home, and he will gladly give you lots of love back. So if you're interested and think you might be the perfect forever home for Barney please Contact placement.
