Hamilton 07-549

Profile

Hamilton arrived at our house yesterday.  He likes to play and get lots of attention.  He plays very nicely with our resident Golden, KC.  He is very courious about the miniture poodle and I don't think he has had much exposue to small animals.  The small dog has a big attitude and is teaching Hamilton to leave him alone.  Hamilton is not aggessive with the small dog, just very courious.  We are working on our listening skills.  He knows the basic commands and works very well one on one.  His attention span gets short around the other dogs because he wants to play.  He is only one year old so this is to be expected.  He has not had an accident in the house and is very good about going outside.  It has been raining so we haven't gone on a walk yet.  He had a great night and slept quietly all night.  He is going to vet on Monday and will get nuetered as soon as possible.  Hamilton is a beautiful dog and will make a great companion for a lucky family.  I will update you next week on how he is settlling in.

The picture with the two dogs, the darker dog is our KC and the lighter dog is Hamilton.  They are so fun to watch play.  Hamilton is such a Ham : )

Hamilton has amazed everyone with his natural hunting ability.  He did a great job pointing and flushing out the birds.  He took his hunting seriously and worked great along side our Golden.  Our's is a good retreiver but doesn't do so well flushing them out so Hamilton did that part.  He did a good job finding the birds but didn't know what to do with them when he found them.  He needs a little work on the retreiving part.  He did get a little far ahead but would come back when called.  He thinks farm life is wonderful.  There are no leashes or fences and he gets to roam and explore all he wants.  He does a great job staying aroung the farm yard.  He has a new best friend, the resident farm dog, Piper.  They have the exact same personalities and like to play the same way.  They will scruffle around the yard like they are fighting (tails wagging) and then lay down beside each other and take a nap.  Hamilton seems to play better with A personality dogs better than B's.  He tends to get a little rambunctious when he plays but that is how he plays.  It is probably that he is still a puppy.  He would do best at a home with a fenced in yard.  He walks good on a leash with a gentle leader but when meeting other dogs, he does better in a yard off leash.  He has met lots of dogs and has played well with all of them when they are in the yard running free.

He loves people and loves to get his belly rubbed.  He doesn't beg for food when we are eating and he seldom barks.  Even when ours are barking, he just looks to see what they are barking at.  Hamilton has a fun and strong personality and needs to find someone that appreciates that in a dog.  He makes us laugh and amazes us at how far he has come since we got him.  He doen't jump on us when we come home anymore.  He doesn't bother the poodle and he gets to have free roam of the house when we are gone.  He sneaks and sleeps on the furniture when we aren't home but so do the resident dogs.  He only has to go in his kennel when he is naughty.  He has a bad habit of counter surfing occasionally.

We are going to take him to dog classes so he can keep up on his social skills.  We have relatives in St. Cloud so if you would like to meet him, let placement know and we can bring him down.

He would have written himself but he has spent two days hunting and he is out cold on the living room floor.

Hello, Hamilton here again.  Sports season has stared here in Grand Forks, home of the Fighting Sioux.  It is football season right now but my foster family is BIG into hockey.  As you can see they are trying to make me into a Sioux fan.  If there are any MN Gopher fans out there that are looking for a cute adorable little boy to love, please email placement and help me out. There is still time to turn me into a Gopher fan before hockey starts.  As my foster mom said earlier I will be in St. Cloud at PetCo next weekend so come and visit me.  I promise I won't wear my Sioux jersey!

Foster Mom: Hamilton 07-549 and I will be able to attend Petco in St. Cloud.  We are looking forward to getting him some exposure and hopefully find a good home for him!

Hello,  Hamilton here.  I am so excited to finally be out of a kennel all of the time.  My foster family took me camping!!  I even got my own chair by the campfire.  Ok, it was my foster mom's chair but she let me sit on for a while.  It was to cold to go swimming but we went for lots of walks and I got to meet a lot of new people and dogs.  I watched for squirrels and rabbits too.  I would have loved to run and chase them but I wasn't allowed out of our campsite.  I got to play all day with my rope and frisbee.  Camping is lots of fun, but very exhausting.  I got sleep on the couch in the camper and I even got a pillow!!  I hope I can go camping again.   I can't wait to get a new family of my own.  I am a good boy most of the time.  I get in trouble sometimes when I do things I am not supposed to.  I am still young and learning how to live in a house and not a kennel.  If you would like to meet me please email placementatragom [dot] org and we can get together.  I bet you would love me as much as my foster family.

Hamilton has been with us for five days now.  He is so much fun to have around.  He is so excited that he doesn't have to sleep in a kennel anymore.  He sprawls out on the floor in our room and sleeps all stretched out.  He is such an easy-going dog.  At night we have quiet time and he loves to cuddle and have his belly rubbed.  His favorite thing to do is play outside with his rope and Frisbee.  He loves to fetch them and run around and around.  We are working on the bringing it back part.  Of course he always wants the same toy as the resident Golden, so it is funny to watch them and see who gets it.  We go for walks everyday and he is learning to be a good walker.  He gets distracted by the sounds of kids and other dogs but easily gets back on track.  He still doesn't know how to play with small dogs.  He is not aggressive, he just knows he is bigger than they are.

Hamilton had his first vet check on Monday and she gave him clean bill of health.  He will be neutered on Thursday.  I don't think he is looking forward to that :(  All of our neighbors can't believe what a beautiful dog he is and how well he knows his commands.  He is a smart dog and learns quickly.  Of course, as with all dogs (and kids), he does have selective hearing sometimes.   When he knows he did something he was not supposed to, he lays down and looks at you with his cute puppy eyes and it is hard to be mad at him.

Hamilton is ready to find his forever home.   We love having him with us and we know what a great addition he will be to his forever family.
