Hamilton has amazed everyone with his natural hunting ability. He did a great job pointing and flushing out the birds. He took his hunting seriously and worked great along side our Golden. Our's is a good retreiver but doesn't do so well flushing them out so Hamilton did that part. He did a good job finding the birds but didn't know what to do with them when he found them. He needs a little work on the retreiving part. He did get a little far ahead but would come back when called. He thinks farm life is wonderful. There are no leashes or fences and he gets to roam and explore all he wants. He does a great job staying aroung the farm yard. He has a new best friend, the resident farm dog, Piper. They have the exact same personalities and like to play the same way. They will scruffle around the yard like they are fighting (tails wagging) and then lay down beside each other and take a nap. Hamilton seems to play better with A personality dogs better than B's. He tends to get a little rambunctious when he plays but that is how he plays. It is probably that he is still a puppy. He would do best at a home with a fenced in yard. He walks good on a leash with a gentle leader but when meeting other dogs, he does better in a yard off leash. He has met lots of dogs and has played well with all of them when they are in the yard running free.
He loves people and loves to get his belly rubbed. He doesn't beg for food when we are eating and he seldom barks. Even when ours are barking, he just looks to see what they are barking at. Hamilton has a fun and strong personality and needs to find someone that appreciates that in a dog. He makes us laugh and amazes us at how far he has come since we got him. He doen't jump on us when we come home anymore. He doesn't bother the poodle and he gets to have free roam of the house when we are gone. He sneaks and sleeps on the furniture when we aren't home but so do the resident dogs. He only has to go in his kennel when he is naughty. He has a bad habit of counter surfing occasionally.
We are going to take him to dog classes so he can keep up on his social skills. We have relatives in St. Cloud so if you would like to meet him, let placement know and we can bring him down.
He would have written himself but he has spent two days hunting and he is out cold on the living room floor.
