Emma (Kelly 07-543)

Profile

Kelly is firmly convinced that she’s the cutest and smartest dog of the entire litter. And who are we to try to convince her otherwise? She is one of Patti’s four-week-old puppies that comes to us from a puppy mill in Arkansas. She is one of the middle-sized puppies in the litter but there’s nothing small about her personality – nothing shy about this little girl.

Dana and her boys went off with Kelly two weekends ago. Dana writes, “She is the joy in our lives! On top of being the smartest and most intelligent of the bunch, I believe we also got the Master Gardener of the crew as she is very delighted with any and all flowers she is able to destroy … oops, I mean, help garden J ”. They have chosen a new name for her and she is now known as Emma. She has mastered going up and down stairs (while here she had only gotten the “up” part and had to be rescued when it came time for “down”) and has become best friends with the resident dog. She gets lots of outside time that she always loved. It certainly sounds like she’s burrowed her way into their hearts.

Kelly went with her sisters for shots, a chip and a health checkup yesterday. She’s getting ready to go to her new home next weekend. She was 9.5 pounds and in tip-top health. She was a little reluctant to be weighed – perhaps that’s a “girl thing”. She also went for a lie-down under the bench when it came time to be put up on the stainless steel table for her exam. But the vet had cookies. – everything was all right after that. She’s gotten full clearance to go off to her forever home.

Kelly remains the cutest and smartest of the litter. She’s adventuresome, bright and personable. In her forever home she will be with Dana, Holly and their two boys. She will also have two other dogs to pal around with (and learn from – which is probably both good and bad).

She’s still the brightest and the cutest of the litter. Just ask her if you don’t believe it. She’s the explorer in the group. She’s up in mom’s food dish, water dish and trying to scale the barrier keeping her in the “puppy area”. She’s still one of the medium-sized dogs in the litter but she, like the others, is eating well and growing rapidly. She has discovered toys and pursues them with vigor. And even though she doesn’t cough and is not lethargic (far from it, actually) we’ll be giving her the treatment for upper respiratory infection that many of the dogs from this puppy mill seem to be contracting.
