Pudding 07-522

Profile

Meet Pudding.  She is a gorgeous deep red golden girl rescued from an Arkansas puppy mill.  According to her paperwork she will turn five on September 26th.  She may be pregnant and we will find out at her vet appointment on Friday.  She is not your typical puppy mill girl.  She is very friendly and always wants to be near us.  She loves water and made herself right at home in our back yard kiddie pool.  She doesn't seem too interested in treats or toys but will carry around a shoe if given the chance.  She rides well in the car, is crate trained, and enjoys the company of her foster sister Honey 07-479.  She even tolerates our obnoxious puppy.  We are working on house training.  She is very smart and I'm sure she'll get the hang of it in no time.  More to come on this special girl after her vet appointment.

We, Howie, myself, Betty Cocker and Tiger, lost our best friend Pudding on Jan. 2nd.  She went into congestive heart failure due to some medication she was on to treat her lymphoma.  Now are hearts are broken because we miss her so much.  She was such a sweet, gentle girl.  I miss my BRD (big red dog).

Pudding went to the vet today.  Her ears look great, the ear infections are all cleared up.  Pudding's spay surgery has been delayed due to some diarrhea.  She is on Metronizadole for 10 days and can be spayed after she finishes her medication.  There were two kittens wandering around the vets office.  One really wanted to play with Pudding but Pudding wanted nothing to do with her.  It was obvious Pudding hasn't had any exposure to cats.  She was a little afraid and kept trying to get away.  How can such a big dog be scared of a cute little kitten?  I think Pudding would be fine with cats once she got used to them.  She has a very sweet-natured, gentle personality.  We found out last night she does have some storm anxiety.  She barks at the thunder.  The vet suggested Rescue Remedy or even Benadryl to help her relax during the next one which will probably be tonight.  Wish us luck and stay tuned for more updates soon.

We have enjoyed another week with Pudding.  She is just a pleasure to have around.  She is incredibly easy-going and much more relaxed than when she first came to our house.  We can hardly see the traces of her puppy mill days.   She sleeps all night in her crate and hasn't had any accidents since her second or third day with us.  I think we can go ahead and officially call her house-trained.  Pudding goes back to the vet in about a week for her ear re-check and we'll let you know how that goes.    We have had a family reunion at our house.  Pudding's daughter Lovie 07-559 is now being fostered by us.  We are also temp fostering Lovie's sister Cari 07-560.  It's wonderful to see them interact as a family.  They truly enjoy each other's company.  Lovie has really blossomed due to the presence of her mother and sister.  Pudding and Lovie will be attending the RAGOM picnic on September 22 at Snail Lake Regional Park in Shoreview.  Come and see for yourself how special these girls are.

Well, we just got back from the vet and big surprise ~ Pudding is most likely not pregnant.  We will know more in 10 days when she goes in for her ear re-check for her ear infection.  If she is definitely not pregnant she will be spayed and microchipped shortly afterwards.  She tested positive for Ehrlichia and is on antibiotics for that.  I was told her teeth are in great shape except for a small broken tooth that will be pulled when she gets spayed.  She does have early cataracts that may never mature and be a problem for her, time will tell.  She weighs 72 lbs and she is absolutely beautiful.  Everybody says so.  Her pictures don't do her justice.    The house training is coming along great with no accidents at all.  Of course I do let her out frequently.  She sleeps quietly in her crate all night long with one exception.  She barks once in the middle of the night (otherwise she rarely barks) to let me know she needs to go potty.  Then back in her crate until morning.  She is a pleasure to take on a walk, you hardly know she's at the end of her leash.  She will need some basic obedience training as she doesn't seem to understand any commands yet.  She is just starting to learn her name.  Pudding has come a long way in the three days she's been at our house.  She's learned to go up and down stairs, how to eat and drink out of dog bowls, and most important ~ how wonderful it is to be part of a family and not just a puppy machine.  She is just the sweetest girl you could ever meet.  She LOVES people and gets along great with other dogs.   We'll have more updates very soon as we get to know this special girl.
