Fritz a 7 month old male golden/brittany mix has arrived!  He is just the sweetest little guy.  Loves dogs, cats and kids of all ages.  He was neutered and brought up to date on shots today.  His tail was docked previously but wags and wags all the time!  He is a very happy boy!  He is crate trained, house broken, and walks well on a leash.  He even gives small kisses and loves to sit on our laps.  Will update with more information and pictures later.  If you are interested in Fritz who may not look all golden, but sure has the temperament and personality of a golden contact placementatragom [dot] org

Hi everybody, Fritz here!  Just wanted to let you know how I’ve been doing lately at my foster home.  Mom says I’ve become quite the little helper to her.  When she makes the bed I REALLY want to help do it, so I jump on the bed, go to the part she’s trying to straighten out and I stand there and look at her like “can I help ya?  Huh?  Huh?”  She then moves to a different part of the bed (really quickly, if I didn’t know how helpful I was I would swear she’s trying to get away from me) so I zoom over to that part before she can finish it so that I can be of assistance.  Pretty soon we end up playing fetch and she makes the bed lightening fast when I’m chasing my squeaky egg.  I try and scotch the covers around when I bring the egg back just to keep her busy.

Yesterday I helped her shampoo the carpet (see my picture below?)  I picked a spot smack in the middle of the room, then laid down and took a nap to keep her company.  She shampooed all around me and I didn’t even wake up.  Every time she would stop to empty the machine she would tiptoe out of the room trying not to wake me up, but I know she misses me so I sleep with one ear perked all the time and she can NEVER tiptoe away from me when I’m sleeping without me following her.  When we get to the place she’s going, I lay down and take a quick catnap until she moves again.

Mom says I’m pretty intelligent too.  When we go on walks now, I get my own retractable leash, and when I start to go around the wrong side of a tree or a signpost Mom yells “go around!” and I know to stop, go back around the post to unwrap myself, and then catch up to her and the other dogs.  Yesterday I hadn’t even wrapped around the wrong side yet and when Mom told me I changed direction right away – she told me I’m one smart cookie!  And I haven’t hog tied her legs in almost two weeks, which is a good thing because the big red leash burn mark I made on her leg when I first got here is finally going away!

I have one more very, VERY important thing to tell you.  Somebody talked to my foster mom this weekend and said they want me to be their very own dog.  Forever and ever and ever!  They said they’ll walk me and take me for swims, and I might even get to snuggle in the recliner with them sometimes for a nap.  I knew if I waited long enough that I’d find just the right family, and it will feel so good to have my very own home.  And just wait until they see my face – they’re gonna just love me I think.  Mom always tells me I have such a FACE.  Not quite sure what that means but it’s always followed by lots of kisses so it must mean a good thing!

Anyway, that’s about all my news, I’ll see you later!

As you can see by today’s picture, Fritz continues to live a rough life in his foster home. He just snuggles, then snuggles, and snuggles some more.  I’ve been trying to think this week of what the ideal home for Fritz would be, here are some details:  although Fritz is more mellow then some pups, he still is a puppy and will need training.  As he has gotten used to walks he pulls a bit more, even with a Gentle Leader, but once he gets some energy out then he does fine.  So Fritz definitely needs at least one long walk/day, if not another short one to get rid of that puppy energy!  He also needs a family that has time to train him.  He is a very trainable dog and will learn quite quickly if placed with a family who has the time to spend with him on a daily basis.  And although I realize not everyone likes dogs on the furniture, if there were just one place he could sit with his human and snuggle up with them he would be sooooooo happy!  Finally, Fritz does have a history of being terrified when crated, so crates are not an option for him.  He needs a family willing to work with him on any anxiety he may feel when separated.  He has done well babygated in my mudroom with my dogs, so I think as long as a family is willing to work on trying different soluntions and working with any situations they find make Fritz anxious he will do just fine.

Funny Fritz story of the day:  My cat Jax has Fritz firmly convinced that he (Jax) will eat him (Fritz) for dinner if Fritz gets too close.  If Jax is near when I feed Fritz, the poor guy won’t come and eat until I make Jax leave.  Last night, however, the two became partners in crime.  I came upstairs and found Jax lying in the hall, his front paws wrapped around a roll of paper towels and his back legs pounding away at the roll, claws extended, shredding it to pieces.  Don’t ask me how he got the paper towels, but I would venture a guess that it involves a child and a cupboard door being left open.  I hollered and shooed Jax away, who immediately decided to go in the bathtub and chase his tail for fun.  I followed the cat and watched him for my own entertainment for awhile (you have to run a pretty tight circle not to hit the sides of the tub, I was impressed), then I came out of my bathroom to find Fritz on my bed, paws holding the roll of paper towels, and a big old paper towel sticking out of each side of his mouth.  He apparently felt it was his duty to finish disassembling the roll, piece by piece, all over my bed.

Later, when I came to bed and my snuggling Fritzie was nestled at my side, Jax came up and actually sniffed Fritz’s nose without puffing up like a raccoon.  For those of you without cats, that is Jax’s way of telling Fritz he’s somewhat cool for a puppy and that he (Jax) might let him live after all.

Today Fritz had a mini-milestone, I left him for 1.5 hours baby gated in the mudroom (single gate) and he didn’t jump it or knock it down!  His two dog buddies kept him company and I think that helps.  We also found out why Fritz has gone chewing nuts in the last few days – he lost a tooth!  One of my kids announced it with a big “eeeuuuuuuuuu!”  Based on the fact that the ball point pen that must have fallen to the study floor is now in 3 pieces I’d say he’s still teething and chewing this afternoon.

I finally was able to conquer my psycho computer and upload pictures, so am including 3 new ones of Fitchie.  Pictures just don’t do him justice, he’s just the cutest thing alive!
