Tonka has had a busy two days. He visited the Vet yesterday. He is heartworm negative!!! The doc thought the swelling on his nose is due to a piece of quill. He said it should migrate out on its own. He gave Tonka antibiotics to help in case it became infected. The swelling has already gone down since Sat. But said this should not stop him from going to a new home. He is microchipped. Today he went to the groomer to get rid of the mats. The mats were very close to the skin so the groomer had to groom him right down. And he is a very happy boy with out them. When his hair grows back, he will be a gorgeous golden. Right now he looks kind of yellow labish. We have him on a long rope about 50 ft. when we are out with him and he does not go far. He did check out the neighbors beach, but decided he liked ours just as well and came back. He LOVES to swim and retrieve balls and sticks. And he is really good in the house. Still is infatuated with the cats.

Hi,
We adopted Tonka, who we renamed Shelby, in August 2007. After almost 12 years of being our sweet, loyal canine companion, we made the heartbreaking decision to put him down on June 26, 2019, as old age was taking its toll on his quality of life.
Shelby spent the first five years with just the two of us, going for walks to the park and swimming in the lake. He loved playing rough with his best buddy, a friend's Australian Shepherd named Logan.
He was a true "retriever" and tried many times to fit as many tennis balls in his mouth as possible! He did his best to work on winning over those who were not dog people by asking for attention with his sweet, calm demeanor. When our human babies arrived later on, he continued to be his gentle and patient self, perfectly tolerant of our young toddlers and their curiosity of animals.
Our family will miss Shelby dearly, and thank you for letting us give him his forever home.
