Ziggy 07-447

Profile

When I first met Ziggy at the shelter he pranced right up to me and gave me a big kiss! He came in as a stray, but he must have lived in a home because he's housetrained and he can shake with both paws! He also knows how to come, sit and is a wiz at fetching. Ziggy is a tall, lanky boy and right now he has a buzz cut because he was rather disheveled when he first came to the shelter. But he has a beautiful, feathery tail, so he will probably be a very handsome guy when his fur grows back. Tomorrow we are off to the vet to be neutered and hopefully they can help us figure out how old he is (the shelter thinks he's about 4 years old). Ziggy is truly a delightful, well-mannered young man and a joy to have in our home!

The vet took out Ziggy's ear sutures this week! His ear has healed nicely, although it does curl under a little. I think it's cute and it probably won't show very much after his fur grows back. So Ziggy is officially "good to go!"

Ziggy had another great week with us. His ear is healing nicely and it doesn't seem to bother him anymore, so I took the e-collar off yesterday. Ziggy was so happy to be aerodynamic again that he started zooming around the backyard so fast that the other dogs started barking to cheer him on! I tried to take a picture but all I got was a yellow blur, so I had to wait until he finally came inside and collapsed on the futon.

Ziggy is such a cheerful, silly dog who can make me laugh even after a tough day at work. As soon as his sutures come out, he'll be ready to bring his joy and smiles to his forever home.

Ziggy went to the vet last week where he underwent a thorough check-up and was neutered. The neutering was uneventful (well...perhaps not from Ziggy's point of view) but the vet did find a hematoma (blood filled space) in one of Ziggy's ears. Ziggy had fly bites on that ear, so the hematoma probably resulted from shaking his head and/or scratching that ear. The hematoma required minor surgery in which the vet made two incisions on the inside of the ear flap to drain the blood. The surgery went well, but the sutures will have to stay in until August 14. After that Ziggy will be good as new! He's been a really good sport about the ear stuff...he has to wear an e-collar until the sutures come out, but he's adapted pretty well. He even figured out how to hold his rawhide with one foot! Since his ear is now protected by the e-collar, I've given Ziggy the run of the house and yard so I can evaluate him better. He gets along great with all of the other dogs, even thought they're snickering at him about the silly collar. Ziggy is fine with our cats...he's curious but he doesn't chase or bark. He's also very good with our daughter who is 4. Ziggy is a happy, affectionate, well-adjusted dog who would make a wonderfully faithful companion.
