Finch 07-396

We have been fostering Finch for a week now and have enjoyed him so much! Finch is a beautiful Golden mix with a blocky head, a fluffy golden coat, huge eyes and a slightly black-tinged muzzle. He is 5-1/2 years old and weighs 75 pounds. The vet thought he could lose about 10 pounds. He's very mellow and has perfect house manners... truly a sweetheart of a dog.

As you can see, Finch is a returning RAGOM boy. He was surrendered after he nipped a 9-month old baby in his home. Obviously this is a very serious situation, and while his family loved him very much, they made the difficult decision to give Finch a chance to find a quieter home without children. We have no doubt that we can help Finch accomplish just that, as he has so many wonderful qualities.

Here are some fun Finch facts:

  • Healthy and up to date on shots
  • Walks nicely on an Easy Walk harness
  • Well-trained - knows hand signals for sit, come, lay down
  • Likes cats - has lived with cats before
  • Likes other dogs
  • Takes treats like a gentleman
  • Likes to play "hide and seek" (bIg tail wags for that one!)
  • No resource guarding
  • Never jumps on beds or furniture
  • Completely house-trained and non-destructive with free-roam of house
  • Loves brushing, petting, snuggles and belly rubs
  • Is not a runner
  • No storm anxiety
  • Doesn't beg
  • Trained on an invisible fence

Finch is affectionate, mellow, quiet and loyal. If you think you'd like to meet this handsome guy, please let your placement advisor know. Finch looks forward to meeting you!

Finch went home today with his new parents. He was happy and relaxed and cuddled up immediately. Congratulations Cathy, Scott and Finch!

We brought Finch to the Petco Meet-and-Greet last weekend. It was great to see so many people turn out to meet the dogs and we discovered Finch has a little fan club out there! He's usually pretty stealthy with his emotions, but he was smiling and wagging all day, so it was clear that he enjoyed all the attention. He was a little nervous at first but warmed up quickly and by the end he was downright hamming it up. We all enjoyed it so much that we will be at the Meet and Greet this Sunday, March 2nd at Petco in Apple Valley from 12-2.

Finch at Petco Meet and Greet

Finch has really come out of his shell in the past week or so at our house. We are seeing more and more his sweetness shining through every day. He can appear stoic (which you can even see in some of the first photos I took) and we are now seeing him open up and relax and have more fun. He is asking us for more pets, more belly rubs and even hopped up on the couch when we invited him for some snuggling and movie time. He asks for very little but he'll give much in return. That seems to be Finch's style.

Finch is a very loyal, loving dog. I am starting to realize that he feels things very deeply and because of this I think he's a little more pensive than most. We've made some great connections with him and while that is really rewarding and makes us very happy, ultimately we want Finch to bond with his forever family. So if you're out there reading this and wondering... just fill out that application and come and meet Finch. He's such a cool dog. I know he's going to make someone so happy and proud. Finch has that kind of spirit that when he connects, you feel it. I'll be excited to see what's next for him and his people, because he is really special.

We will be at the Meet and Greet this Sunday, March 2nd at Petco in Apple Valley from 12-2. Please come and say hi!

If you don't have the time or energy for a rambunctious puppy, then you should consider meeting Finch! He's such an easy-going guy. He probably wouldn't be the best long distance running partner, but he does love to walk.

Finch has been wonderful in our home. He loves to play with my husband in the yard — he play bows and gets really excited. We have also been cracking up at how much he likes to play "hide and seek." It is just the cutest thing. He found my husband hiding in the shower... it took him a bit longer than usual and Finch thought that was just great! Big tail wags.

We are noticing that Finch does get pretty excited and barks when someone arrives at the door. Once he quiets down, he's fine. But still, I think we'll work on this behavior so he's not so excitable at the door and his new home might want to continue working on this as well.

He would do well in the home of a single person or couple. He holds his bladder like a champ, so a full work day is no problem at all. Let us know if you'd like to meet this handsome boy, Finch. He's such a nice dog.
