Gabby made the long trip from Rapid City, SD and now calls Lakeville, MN her temporary home. She came to Ragom from the Humane Society, and prior to that was a stray. According to her discharge papers from the Humane Society upon admission was very fearful and only weighed 30.1 pounds. Granted she is a smaller Golden but was/is very emaciated. Since being in foster care she has had a very good appetite and is receiving five meals per day.  Today she ate 2.5 times the food per day required to sustain a larger active male Golden. You will note in her pictures that she is still extremely thin, but I am confident with continued good food she will up to her ideal weight in no time.

While Gabby has only been in foster care for a little more than a day, a very sweet and gentle personality is coming through. Currently she is a little bit frightened of meeting new people, but warms up some after just a few minutes. I have not hear a peep from her and likes to sleep in her crate. Finally, it appears that she may be potty trained as she so far has not had an accident in the house.

This evening Gabby had her wellness exam and did very well. Also her weight has increased to 39 pounds! Currently we are waiting for the results of her fecal and blood tests. Unfortunately, she has not been altered and will need to have spay surgery before she can be adopted. Also, she needs to gain more weight, and be stronger, before any operation will be considered. However, it all goes well she could be ready for her spay in just a few weeks. The vet's best estimation is that she is around three years old.

More to come as I get to know this girl a little better.

If you are looking for a smaller female Golden, Gabby could be the dog for you. Please contact Ragom Placement for consideration.

Gabby continues to gain weight and currently tips the scale at 48 pounds. Due to her smaller frame I feel that she is nearing her ideal weight.

Gabby's progress has been slow, but steady, since coming into foster care. I believe that she was abused in the past. She remains fearful of most people, strange noises and new situations. However, more frequently she forgets to be afraid and wags her tail and acts like a happy pup. The sad part is for no apparent reason she retreats and acts frightened. Thankfully her happy times are more and more frequent and longer in duration.

Gabby's personality continues to evolve but from what I have seen she is a very sweet girl. I also feel that she will be very playful once her fears subside. Also she is trying very hard to trust and makes very good eye contact.

I believe that Gabby is not a full Golden. My guess is that she is a Golden/Yellow Lab cross. Her face and eyes and shorter coat resemble that of a Yellow Lab. However, she has attractive white feathers of a Golden on her legs and tail. Her ears are all Golden. The combination makes for a very attractive dog.

I feel that Gabby would do best in a quiet home. At current anyone who is considering adopting Gabby must realize that she is a work in progress. She has fears that she needs to overcome, and needs someone who will be patient with her and use positive motivation to help her become a well adjusted dog. If you are willing to work with this little girl I'm sure she will soon be your best friend.

Gab is scheduled for her spay surgery tomorrow June 26th. If all goes well she should be ready for her forever home by this weekend.

Thanks again to Jay and Kelly Wallin for sponsoring Gabby.
