Sponsored by: Dave and Erika Rustad Let me introduce you to Merci 07-347.  Although we have only been together 3 days, she has made quite an impression on all that have met her.  Merci was welcomed 'home' by the two resident Goldens, one just slightly taller than petite Merci and the other one has legs taller than Merci.  They proceeded to the fenced back yard and settled in.  A neighbor came over to the fence and Merci went over to give her a kiss.  Another came into the yard and she went to greet him.  Merci is extremely social and takes cues accordingly.The first night, I let her enjoy the entire house.  She had a few accidents and tried to help me clean up!  She is now confined to the kitchen at night and  quiet until morning when resident dogs get up.  On leash, she stays right next to me, whether alone or with the residents.  As Merci spent a few weeks in boarding, she had her medical needs addressed; spay, shots, etc.  Due to years of ear infections, she will need further  treatment.  As bad as her ears must hurt, Merci allows me to clean and treat them twice a day without any protest.Merci is not a typical puppy mill dog.  She is not shy and wags her tail non-stop.  She does not know how to play with dogs...yet!  I can see the Golden spark in her eyes slowly getting bigger.  It won't be long until she will be one of the very BEST Goldens, ever.

Merci has been her usual happy self. In the morning when resident dogs make a mad dash to go out, Merci will not go out the door without first receiving a scratch and a morning greeting.  She thrives on attention.

Yesterday, our small town had a parade with a lot of activity.  As I wanted to show Merci off, she had a bath and proudly walked with me to the parade.  Nothing seemed to bother her; fire trucks, people throwing candy and oh, so many children stopping to pet her.  As a stranger would come to her, she would sit down and wait.  There were several adults that said how they would love to have a dog like her.

Foster mom finally let me use the computer to let you all know how I am doing.  Well, where to start?  On June 1, I woke up in a new home.  There were 2 other dogs and someone called Foster Mom (I just call her mom).  Even before breakfast, the 3 of us took a walk and Mom kept telling me how good I was on leash (new words for me, but I figured out what she meant).  Then there was a bowl of food just for me!  And another one later in the day.  The other dogs only get to eat once a day...shows you how special I am, doesn't it?    We have a big yard with grass and a wooden place called a deck.  But it is not good to go potty on that wood, so I use the grass like the other guys.  The grass gets cut with a loud motor on wheels, so I like to walk with FM to keep her safe from that thing!  We also have a fence to keep us safe from the 'outside'.  Playing with the other dogs is fun, but when FM comes home, I just stay with her...she needs me to keep her happy (that is what she said, anyway).  And, I can go down lots of steps and run right back up them...without anyone helping me!   Wouldn't you like to meet me?  I am VERY pretty, love to meet new friends, and I am sure that I will make you happy.  I sleep in my crate at night, am housetrained and would like to have a yard (with a fence to keep me safe).  Please consider me, you will not be disappointed.   Dave and Erika Rustad, thank you for showing your love for me by being my sponsors.  You DO make a difference.   Merci

Merci went to the vet on Sat. and she has good news!  Her ears look good and will be off all meds in a few days.  She greeted the vet staff as if they were her best friends and let Dr. Lancaster poke and prod and didn't seem to mind one bit.  So, as hard as this is for me, Merci is ready to find her furever home. At the IA RAGOM picnic, I watched her interact with all sizes (canine and human), with such gentleness.  It was easy for her to walk around on her own and check things out.  When someone would pet her, she sat down and enjoyed the attention from adults and children.   And then off to the next adventure.  But all the while, making sure she knew where I was.  Merci passed this test!  She is very social. Merci greets each day expecting new and better things.  Yesterday she barked, much to her surprise.  Tonight she had a tug-of-war with the resident Goldens, who tired long before she did.  Eating is, by far, her favorite part of every day.  As she is a bit underweight, I feed her twice a day.  No food is left on the floor as she is a canine vacuum.  She sleeps with her stuffed Golden and during waking hours, shares it with the foster dogs.  Your heart will belong to Merci at first wag.  She needs a furever home that will return her devotion.
