Sam 07-345

Profile

Sam is a gorgeous, dark-red, 5-year-old neutered male who was surrendered to RAGOM with his brother, Ty.  He jumped right into the truck when I opened the door and laid on the back seat until I starting driving.  Then he sat up and watched out the window all the way home; He likes riding.

He is a skinny 65 lb guy who should gain about 10 more pounds to be a good weight for his size. When he arrived at his foster home, he met our resident 16-month-old, neutered male Golden and played in the yard after finding a tennis ball. He catches it and drops it when he brings it back.  Sam was full of burrs, dirt, and matted fur, so he got a much-needed bath after getting the matting cut out.  He never fussed during the bath and LOVED getting towel dried.  While being brushed, he kept rolling over to have his tummy rubbed.  He gives kisses and leans into us when we are petting him. What a sweetheart!

Sam slept through the night on the floor next to our bed.  He ate his food in the morning while our resident dog ate too and he let me pet him while he was eating.  We went for a walk around the block together and they walked like they were best friends!  His former owner must have given him some basic obedience training because he heeled on his leash during the walk and knows how to ‘Come’ and ‘Sit’ on command.

Sam is house trained and just wants to be with us all of the time.  His owner reported that he got along with kids, cats, and other dogs.

Sam is UTD with his shots and goes to the vet on Thursday for a checkup.

This guy won’t be waiting long for his forever home!

We’ll post more updates as we learn more about this good-looking guy.

Sam is a great dog. He‘s settled nicely into our daily routine. He’s excited to see us when we get home and is eager to play or go for a walk. He has the run of the house while we are at work and never has accidents or destroys anything while we are gone. This guy walks nicely on a leash, and is very friendly and mellow. A couple new things we discovered about Sam is that he isn’t bothered by thunderstorms and also that if your truck or car door is open, he’s in there saying “let’s go!” Sam was a little tentative about going swimming in a lake at first but quickly figured out it was fun. He was having a great time splashing around and fetching the ball in the water.

Of course all that play means its time for a catnap!

This is a good looking dog with a super personality; he doesn’t have any bad habits!

Sam went to the vet on Thursday and was told he is in good health! Before we got Sam, he was boarded at a kennel and licked his paw because he was bored. He has a small raw spot on top of his front paw about the size of a quarter that we had the vet check. We got some ointment to apply to it to help it heal and it looks better already. Instead of gaining 10 more pounds, the vet recommended gaining only 5 more so he should be around 70 lbs. He is doing so well and filling out, that he only has 3 lbs to go.

It is hard to believe someone would give up such a good dog. We put him in a crate for the first two days while we worked because we weren’t sure if he was really housebroken or how he would get along with our resident 16-month-old dog. Well, the crate is back in the basement because this guy just wants to please us! Being such a mellow, well-behaved dog, he hasn’t bothered anything in the house and just chews on his bones. He is excellent with kids and other dogs that he has met. At night he sleeps on the floor next to our bed where it is cooler.

Sam loves to play with the tennis balls. He catches it in the air, brings it right back to us, and drops it at our feet for us to hit it again. We take him for long walks and he walks right next to us, pulling occasionally, but heels again when we remind him to stay by us. This is a real people dog who just wants to love someone and be loved.
