First of all I want to give a Huge THANK YOU to all of the super RAGOM volunteers that I have met in the last 36 hours.  Especially the fabulous transport team (kisses and wags to my new Cottage Grove Pals), the intake team and the stream lined process of being weighed in, vetted, the bathers who made me feel just like I was at an upscale doggy salon, the dryers, the brushers and combers teams, and the handlers who helped me safely into my chauffeured ride home.  Whew that was a mouthful.  Thank you all fine RAGOM folks!!!!                                              I woke up early and spent three plus hours exploring my new foster home's back yard along with my new pal resident dog, Shelby, a senior cocker spaniel.  Foster dad says I am very smart (I have figured out that he keeps good treats in his pockets, even when he thinks he can outsmart me by switching which pocket the treats are in, I always know).  I am a gorgeous young lady with a beautiful blonde curly coat (Thanks again from last night's spa treatment) just look at my pictures!  I have eaten some good food, drank lots of water, and done all of my business outside, Yeah says foster dad!   I have to run now and see if I can find out who keeps barking on the other side of the fence.  Hmmm, I wonder where was that gate again.  More updates to come when we get furthered settled in and check in with the local vet clinic.                                                        Big Kisses,Jacinda Kay (07-253)

RAGOM rescued 30 plus dogs from a puppy-mill in Missouri on 4/28/2007, Jacinda 07-253 was my very first foster and my initiation into caring for the first of many puppy-mill dogs. There was something special about this shy scared puppy-mill girl that touched my soul. So much so that I just had to make her a permanent resident.

Over the years Indy/Jacinda managed to graciously welcome a number of like minded former puppy-mill foster dogs into our home. Her personalty was ever doting on the new kid. She also tried her hardest to show each foster the true goofy and totally lovable personalty that the Golden Retriever breed is known for.

On the eve of the 9th anniversary of her rescue we received some devastating news. Indy had an advanced case of osteosarcoma. What we had thought was a sprained foot from a wrestling match with her sister, Lauren, was a significant case of the cancer in her front right leg. We opted for some pain medications in the hopes of giving us some more quality time with our kiss girl. Unfortunately the cancer was advanced and we had only a little over 5 more days.

This morning on a beautiful spring day we took time to enjoy some of the sights and smells of the backyard and neighborhood. I made a promise to my kiss girl to let her go peacefully when the pain and cancer became too much. Holding her paw and kissing her face we helped this precious soul to the Rainbow Bridge. Her body and youth have been restored and she has been reunited with her friends that have gone before her. Run free my sweet kiss girl Indy until we meet again!

Hello RAGOM fans, it's me Indy (formerly known as Jacinda) sending in my own Happy Endings update.  I thought it was appropriate to do so right now.  My story is much like the recent Puppy Mill dogs rescued from Missouri.  On April 28th it will be exactly 5 years ago that RAGOM and their wonderful volunteers rescued 21 adult dogs and 14 puppies from a Puppy Mill in southern Missouri.  I happen to be one of those lucky ones.  By the time our caravan reached Minnesota the count of rescued dogs had increased.  One of the other female dogs started to deliver as the caravan was in northern Iowa and by the time they reached MN most of the puppies were born but at least one, or maybe it was 2, were delivered at an ER vet after our arrival in MN.

I want to tell you that much like the latest group of Puppy Mill dogs I too was very scared.  FD (now my permanent Dad) said I never so much as moved an inch from the car ride in Golden Valley to his house in Prior Lake.  You see I was literally frozen in fear as my whole life changed.  When we arrived at his house it was after midnight and he thought I would be so glad to have a potty break in the secure fenced in backyard.  FD carried me from his truck to the backyard and set me down.  I immediately jumped (almost as tall as my Dad is) as my feet had likely never felt a grassed covered lawn.  Inside the house I was not anymore comfortable for days.  I did not like the stairs and had to be carried both outside to do my business and back inside to the safety of my crate.  FD says I used to do a slow crawl and if he even looked at me I would freeze and hug the ground.  And I think the most comical thing he kept taking me and his little Cocker Spaniel (Shelby) outside in the yard.  He would hook Shelby up on her leash and then walk around the perimeter of the yard (over and over again) and at first I would just watch.  This routine went on for days.  Each time FD would try and grab one of the 2 leashes attached to me I would do my famous ground hugging maneuver.  FD was using his Shelby to show me how a normal dog walked on a leash and that it was not at all scary.  Each day FD would work to build my confidence and gain my trust in him.  I think all of the praise and rewards of good treats helped in those early weeks.  After about 2 weeks of backyard training we ventured into the world outside of the fence and that too was super scary.  But in time I began to relax and follow the lead of his little dog, Shelby.

Fast forward 5 years and today we have a big old goof ball of a Golden Retriever.  Indy thinks anyone coming to her house is a friend for life.  She has been a perfect role model for the 30 plus foster dogs that FD has taken in.  Many of his fosters have been ex Puppy Mill dogs like me.  I tell each and everyone of them that in time they will be as happy and playful as I am.  FD says I get sad and  blue when the fosters leave for their forever homes but that doesn't last long and I soon have a new friend to welcome and show the ropes to.

My Dad has a few words he would like to share now.  When I first became a volunteer with RAGOM I had absolutely zero experience with shy scared dogs, let alone former Puppy Mill dogs.  What I have always had is an unending love for dogs and an equally big heart to give them just what they need.  In short do not overlook the possibilities of the shy scared former Puppy Mill dogs.  They may need more time and patience than another dog but the rewards they give back are absolutely priceless.

It's been over a week since I last reported in and boy have I been busy.  I had my spay procedure done last Thursday May 10th at ACH in Richfield, the staff was so nice and they really loved me.  I was so glad when foster dad picked me up on Friday after work and brought me home!  I was told to take it easy for a while and to be let outside on a leash.  In less than 20 minutes of being home I climbed up on the adult bed on my own to get some needed rest.  So much for taking things slow and easy.       Saturday I got to go with foster dad and fellow fur bud Shelby for a long car ride (about 3 hours).  I am told I ride very nice but I am still just a little nervous at first.  I got to visit with foster dad's nephews, niece, brothers and other family members.  I behaved so well everyone really likes me, I think there is a pattern to this.         For being an ex-puppy mill girl from MO I am quickly becoming a GReat Golden Retriever.  I now am taking long walks with my foster dad and fur bud thanks to a martingale collar, I like it so much more than the gentle leader.  I walked into and out of the Vet's office on my follow up visit on Monday night, where I was told the sutures from the spay are healing well and my ear infections are clearing up.  I only need help getting into the car and out of the car.  I also have learned to enter my crate in the morning when foster dad tells me "kennel" while he gets ready for work.            If you are interested in making me a permanent addition to a forever home please contact Placement.  Foster dad tells me with some obedience training and attention I will be a terrific Golden Retriever.  I would probably do best in a home with another fur bud, a home with a fenced in yard, children over the age of 8, and a family that will give me lots of attention and exercise.  In return you will get lots of kisses and body bumps!              Have to go now.  Jacinda 07-253
