Abby is a 1-year-old purebred Golden Retriever. She is spayed, house-trained, and as of this morning is up to date on her vaccinations. She was surrendered to RAGOM because the owner was moving.
Abby has been here a week and she is a very sweet girl. She has been playing with the resident dog and getting along great. She loves to fetch a tennis ball and Frisbee and race through the yard with our dog, Gabby. At her previous home she was on a tie out, so I think she is really enjoying her freedom and room to run. Abby has not minded the cats much, except for on occasion when our young cat goes racing through the house, Abby will go after her. Abby does not harm the cat, she just thinks it is a game of chase. As soon as you tell her to leave the cat alone, she does.
Abby is about 71 pounds and is in good shape. Before she was surrendered to RAGOM, she did have a hot spot on her face, but it is healed now. We have since gotten her on a much better brand of food, as that may have been the culprit for the hot spot. She also had an ear infection, but the vet said this morning both ears look great.
We have been taking some walks with Abby and she definitely needs a Gentle Leader. Abby had gone to puppy obedience classes, so it is just taking some reminders about heeling for her to walk better on a leash. She is doing a great job. Abby knows sit and down, but sometimes does not want to do it right away. She is food motivated, so that works well in convincing her to perform the commands. It wouldn't take much to get her back on track.
For a young dog, Abby is very well behaved. She is free with our dog while we are at work and she does just fine. Abby loves the nylabones and other various toys we have scattered about. She loves the big squeaky ducks and will carry them around and shake them to make them squeak.
More to come on Abby.
