Daisey at Petsmart, 5/5/2007

Daisey is a very calm natured, sweet tempered girl. She is really good about sharing food and toys. I have never seen her display any sign of aggression in any form. She does however have a hidden party animal waiting to come out. She loves to chase after balls in the yard and run and play with Mimzy 07-184 and Brea. She and Mimzy will often play tug of war with a stick or rawhide bone. And she has discovered the joy of shredding newspaper. She pulls the paper into her crate and starts shredding away. The other day I was going through my mail and she starts coming up to me. As I prepare to give her some pets and attention she grabs one of the letters and makes a dash for her crate. Well, I thought it was probably just junk mail but figured I better retrieve it. She gave it up without a struggle but can you imagine my surprise when I discover the piece of mail she grabbed and was about to shred was a jury duty summons! What do you think Ramsey County would say if I told them the reason I didn’t show up for Jury duty was because the dog ate the letter?
Mimzy 07-184 spent a couple of days at the Animal Hospital this week while she was spayed. Daisey really missed her buddy and it is very apparent that this sweet little girl needs to go to a home with another dog. She is scheduled to be spayed next week and after that will be ready to look for her forever home. Her new home should have a fenced in yard as she isn’t very good at recall yet, and is a runner. She does pretty good walking on a lease and she has the housetraining thing down! With the exception of claiming newspapers and shoes for her crate she does really well in the house. She is very gentle and would do well around older children (just keep their homework away from her) but she is still shy and needs to work on socialization. She is also great with cats. Pretty much ignores them, which my cats think is just great. Daisey is smart and is adjusting well to her new life outside the Puppy Mill. This girl really deserves to find a loving home.
Thank you NCCI, Inc for sponsoring Daisey.
What a week Daisey has had! She was joined last Saturday by Mimzy, another ND girl who needed a home with a fenced in yard. The two girls got along instantly and can usually be found together. They love to run and romp in the back yard and can sometimes be found in the crate together. Daisey is learning what toys are for. She will now chase after tennis balls and carry them around. She likes to chew on her Nylabone and has pulled a few tennis balls into her crate.
There have been other milestones as well. When Daisey first came she was very timid. She would wait until I left the room to eat or drink water. She would let me pet her if she was in her crate or tethered to me. I would have to help her out of her crate to go outside. Now she eats and drinks in front of me. She will also venture from her crate to check out what is happening in the house and to go outside, and as of yesterday, has approached me for petting and affection. She likes to lick my hand but has not taken a treat from me yet.
Brea, my son’s dog, is showing Daisey and her housemate Mimzy the ropes. Brea is demonstrating everyday house activities such as going up and down stairs, coming inside the house when called, hanging out quietly inside the house, and sleeping on a dog bed.
Daisey is very excited to have a sponsor! It is nice to know that there are people out there who care about this little girl who is just beginning to discover that life is wonderful :)
