3/30/07: Introducing pretty Nikki.  Another one of the dogs rescued from North Dakota on Saturday, Nikki is very shy.  Nikki spent the first few days in her temporary foster home and moved to her permanent foster home on Tuesday night.  I am absolutely relieved and thrilled to report that she is now eating, drinking, and eliminating - all things that she was too scared to do for three days!  She has met my four dogs and gently sniffed them, but so far hasn't gotten up the nerve to interact with them.  She had a bath and a brush (which she seemed to enjoy, or at least tolerated nicely) and for now, we're just letting her chill out, relax and hopefully learn to trust us.  She has free roam of the lower level of our home, but pretty much just stays in one spot.  I don't kennel her during the day, as there's no reason to.  Frankly, she doesn't hardly move from one spot to the next while I'm at work so she can't really get into any trouble.  She'll be going to the vet this weekend and then we'll have a better guess at her age (right now, I'm guessing between 2 and 3).  She's beautiful, she's gentle, she tears at our heartstrings.  Can't wait for the day when the tail comes up and wags and she runs and plays in the yard with the resident dogs or comes up to us for a pet.  It will happen, and she deserves it.

I am happy to announce that Nikki has found her forever home.  She now has a fur brother and sister and two wonderful human parents.  It was so cute, when they went to put the dogs in the car, they put their two in the back seat and Nikki in the far back on a comfy doggy bed.  Before they even had a chance to get in the car themselves, Nikki had crawled her way over the car seat and was sitting in the backseat with her two new fur siblings and gave Shep a big dog kiss.  She's now at their home and you can tell by the beautiful pictures that she's very happy on her couch, running free in the fenced-in yard and hanging out with Shep.We would all like to sincerely thank Nikki's sponsor, Jenny B.  Nikki's a beautiful, sweet, wonderful dog and she will be loved and pampered forever.
