Tanner 07-091

Profile

3/10/07: WOW, Tanner arrived and boy is he full of energy. What a wonderful, young boy!! Tanner is 1 1/2 years old and a super handsome Golden. He is darker brown/red with a bit of white on his chest. Tanner was surrendered by his owners because they work a lot and simply did not have the time to give this pup.

He met all four resident dogs with enthusiasm and wanted to play, play, play. Lucky for Tanner, our Vinnie is loving his new playmate, and the other dogs just kinda let that happen. When Tanner does too much sniffing of butts, they give him a snarl and he backs off. He'll be learning lots of doggie manners around here very quickly. He is treat-motivated and knows sit and does so quite well. He also likes to shake.

As for kids, this boy LOVES kids. We have three under 11 and he is happy to see them and rather well behaved with them. He has not tried to jump on them at all. Apparently, at his former home, he liked playing Hide' n Seek with the kids. The owner would hold him, the kids would hide and then off he'd go to find them... I bet we can play that game.

I can tell you already that Tanner needs lots of exercise. He would make a reliable, eager running partner once he masters walking on leash. Right now, for me, he did a lot of pulling and running from side to side. He marks everything in sight. But, that is easily dealt with and should not deter any interested forever home. Tanner will need stimuli--he won't be content to spend all day alone in a crate and will benefit greatly from obedience training. Another dog and/or kids are optional but he'd love them.

If you want to see this super sweet dog, let Placement know. He will be seeing the vet early this week and hopefully get neutered right away. That will help him in more ways than one. Otherwise, he seems healthy, happy and could stand to gain about 10 -15 pounds. But, I like my dogs a little plump, so the vet may disagree with me on that one!!
