Rusty is a wonderful boy!!! He came to RAGOM with the other puppy mill dogs on Saturday, September 21st. He was born on August 28, 1996, and was one of the studs at a mill in Oklahoma. Rusty went in for his neuter today. He was also updated on his vaccinations, tested for heartworm, Lymes disease and a hypo-thyroid and for a urinary tract infection. The tests will come back tomorrow but right now I know that he has hookworms and a hot spot between his left paw pads (probably from allergies); he will be treated for both. I spoke with his vet Rusty's surgery and overall health. He thought that Rusty is a real affectionate dog who is in good health minus his dull, sparse and dry coat which was an indication of hypo-thyroid. I am so glad to hear this as I was very worried about him (the vet knew too as I sent a long list of concerns along with Rusty!).

Rusty is a good boy. He's affectionate, sweet, and gentle. He demands a lot of attention but then again who the heck doesn't!? He hasn't had any potty accidents in the house at all!! He doesn't chew inappropriate items. He loves to sleep on the couch. At night he sleeps real nice with me in my bed or on the floor next to me. I keep him locked in the kitchen during the day because I don't have the heart to kennel him ever again. He's spent too many years in a kennel already and doesn't need it anyway. He rides in the car very nicely too. He loves other dogs, interested in the cat, he doesn't bark, walks great on a leash- without a gentle lead. He doesn't really play with toys or balls yet but I will continue to work with him on that. He also doesn't know sit, down or stay- however, I haven't really had to use the commands with him anyway. I wonder how he will change if he is hypo-thyroid and we treat it!!

I've got Rusty on a raw diet. His coat is coarse and dull and his teeth could use some cleaning. I think a raw diet will shine up his coat and clean those teeth up real nice! I've noticed a huge difference in my own dog's coat and teeth since I've put her on a raw diet! I will continue to hug, and love, and kiss, and squeeze and teach, and play and hug, squeeze Rusty until he is comfortable with the real world and is able to go off to a forever home! Rusty would do very well in a home with another nice dog (big dog or little dog) or as an only spoiled dog. He would fit best with an older couple or family. He is the perfect pet for someone who wants a lot of love with little effort as he's content just being with people.
