Sunny 04-171

Profile

Sunny arrived at her foster home safe and sound. She has had a long journey from Missouri where she was in a puppy mill. Luck was with Sunny because the owner had to downsize her puppy mill and Sunny got her freedom. Sunny is a one year old blonde (almost looks white) that is gentle and very shy. She has gone through many changes these last couple of weeks and will need a little time to get settled and learn to trust humans. More next week as Sunny settles in.

Sunny continues to thrive in her new environment, becoming more self confident and less frightened of new things. I've been trying to expose her to new things so she can see that life can be grand for her in this big new world. Last weekend I took her camping and left my two dogs with a friend. Without my dogs there she was less confident on exploring new places and people, but there was another dog in our camping party that fell in love with her and helped her. By the end of the camping trip she wasn't afraid of any of my family and wasn't afraid to be right in the thick of things with us, instead of wanting to be on edge of the woods watching us.

Sunny and my "Boys" have made several more trips up to the lake and she just loves it there! She is definitely a water dog. With the huge yard there she is able to expend some of that puppy energy, she'll run around the house non-stop for several minutes, then go down to the lake and swim. My boys, Copper and Jessie, think she's a little daffy and also think that the lake is too cold yet and will only go in and wade around.

Our beautiful Sunny is learning her name and is getting better at coming when called. Sunny would benefit from some obedience training once she has learned to be comfortable with her new forever family. She likes to go on walks, does pull somewhat on the flat collar so we are going to start training her on the Gentle Leader.

Sunny is a very submissive dog and gets along with all dogs that she has met. She has barked at a cat across the alley but I think she was only following my dog, Copper's, lead. I think that she would do well with cats also once she was introduced to them. I have two birds whose cage is on top of her crate, she has been curious about them and has sought them out when they were walking on the floor, but has not shown any aggression towards them - of course - I would never leave her alone with the two birds when they were out of their cage.

I also think Sunny would do good in a home with children as she is gentle and submissive. She has not shown any aggression whatsoever, even allows my dog, Copper, to go in her crate while she is in there and take her bone or stuffed animal. She has an affection for my senior dog, Jessie, but sometimes gets a little rough with him. He has arthritic back hips that don't work so well and Sunny will come running by him and try to get him to chase her, but she sometimes knocks him down in her enthusiasm - and it doesn't make Jessie too happy. My Jessie is not a dog that plays with other dogs and Sunny has not figured that out yet.

Sunny is ready for her forever home, all she needs is someone to love her and care for her and she'll give it back to you tenfold.
