Colby 04-208

Profile

Well, by now you may have run into Laurin 04-207, the other honorary Golden I'm fostering while you have been checking out the RAGOM website. I have the best of both worlds in being able to foster another honorary Golden (Chocolate Lab) named Colby. He is just a big old lunk of a boy. He is very good natured. He is a typical retriever in that he will fetch and bring it right back to you to throw for him time and time again.

He is a big ole boy, probably around 90 pounds or so.  He does not jump up on people, but he is so big he may knock you over (Just Kidding!).  He is AKC registered, micro chipped, neutered, current on heartworm, and all vaccinations.  He travels well in a car.  Does not bark.  Does not bother my cats or small dogs.  He has lived with many Labs and Goldens and gets along with all of them. Two of the neighbor girls helped me give him a bath and he loved being around both of them.  He does pull a bit when on a leash, but a few obedience lessons will make that a distant memory.

He will do well in a household that has older children and adults that will give him the attention he so much deserves.  He is very much a people dog and would love to be with you wherever you may go.  He has the potential of being a wonderful therapy dog, given the proper training.  His hips have been x-rayed and sent in to OFA.  They said he has mild displaysia in both hips, but believe you me, he has tons of good solid years left in him!!!

He loves swimming in a kiddy pool, haven't had a chance to take him to a lake, but I'm sure he would be the perfect addition to any lake home!

What a wonderful success story! Colby has been with us now for 8 years. Although he is starting to show his age a bit, he is still a complete gentleman and loves hanging out with his people. My wife and I believe that we have been truly blessed by being allowed to share Colby's life, and we know that he is a one of a kind pooch. We can’t thank RAGOM enough for giving us the opportunity to be Colby’s family.

Well, Colby finally did it. He was naughty! When I wasn't looking, he flipped the lid on the container of cockatiel food and ate a good portion of it. He is none the worse for it, and even though I pick up all the dogs' stools in the backyard, I ought to have some really interesting weeds next spring when those missed seeds begin to sprout!! Other than that, it is pretty much status quo where Colby is concerned. He is still just a big old lovable hunk of Lab!

Colby continues to be the perfect ambassador for well mannered Labs. He loves everyone he comes in contact with, cats, dogs, birds, kids, in-laws, ex-spouses, it doesn't matter, he shows them all the same love and respect. He would be overjoyed to be adopted by a family that would play his favorite game with him...."you throw the ball and I'll bring it back to you so you can throw it for me again"! He is easy to have around as he does not jump up on people or furniture or counters or doors or well, the list could go on and on! He rides well in a car. He has been very well behaved every place that I have taken him. He always has lots of admirers because he is so handsome and well behaved. Colby is such a nice guy that I wouldn't hesitate to bring him to my ex mother-in-law's living room.......and she hates dogs!

Well, my bad!!  I guess I over estimated just how big Colby is!! I took him to the vet the other day to weigh him, and he weighed in at 74 pounds. Just for the record, my weight is wrong on my driver's license too!! Guess I'd better not get a job at the fair guessing people's weights!! Anyway, Colby is just about the best example of a Lab that I have ever seen. He fits the lab standard perfectly!! He is just a happy go lucky guy, you can almost hear him say, "lucky dog, lucky dog. I'm such a lucky dog!". He is so well mannered too! He does not jump up on people, however, he does step on your feet a lot!! He is not a guard dog, but he has barked a couple of times. As expected, he has a very deep voice! He gets along with all four footed and two footed creatures. As long as you don't mind a little slobber, he is the perfect companion!
