Sweet Abby 07-054

Profile

2/25/07: Sweet Abbey and her four pups come from a puppy mill in Missouri. I picked her up a week ago and dropped her and her two travel mates at other fosters. I promised Sweet Abbey’s temporary foster I would be back in one week to pick her and the pups up. Mom did great with her four pups and Sweet Abbey will make a perfect companion for someone.

Sweet Abbey will be ready for her forever home in April after she has been spayed. I will let you know more in the next few days. If you are interested in meeting Sweet Abbey, please send a note to Placement so she will have her forever home when she is done with her pups.

Sweet Abbey has been here for two weeks and wow, has she come out of her shell and is doing great. She is the sweetest and most loveable little girl. Does not demand attention, just follows you around until you love her. She is by your side wherever you go, unless it is her nap time.

Abbey's family needs to have another dog; she can go with children or no children. She needs a loving touch, and because she is a puppy mill girl, she needs to be taught the finer things in life. She has made great leaps and bounds. Yesterday she was actually playing with a bone by tossing it up in the air. It was so cute and we were so excited.

She goes out with the big dogs without any hesitation. She has not had an accident in the house in 5 days now, but we are not giving her a chance to fail on this. Abbey will need to be crated or baby-gated when her family leaves for work until she is fully potty trained. She does NOT chew or misbehave in any manner; she just needs guidance.

Sweet Abbey is the kindest mom around; she really does an awesome job. The pups constantly wanted to get milk so we are now feeding them mush so mom gets a little relief. It seems to be helping. The only time that Sweet Abbey gets upset is when our pup Sophee (who is only 4 months) oversteps her boundaries and tries playing too much with Sweet Abbey’s pups. Even then, she just warns Sophee to back off.

We can take Sweet Abbey’s food, toys, bones, anything away from her and she will not growl. She is just so gentle with us. She is not pushy for attention, however she will walk right by you just in case you want to put your hand down to pet her. We are still working on potty training; she has a hard time with the whole going outside thing. She only wants to go when we go out and walk with her, but if you come back in without her going potty outside she will come in and go. We have lots of time to work on this and she has made huge progress in the past week.

We went to the vet today and she weighed in at 69 pounds - almost all of that is milk! She is in good health except for ear infections, imagine that. We will start cleaning those up even more. Sweet Abbey also had a dose of de-worming and got her her rabies shot but nothing else (since she's still nursing).

If you are interested in adopting Sweet Abbey, please contact placementatragom [dot] org. She will be ready to go home in the middle of April after she has been spayed.
