02/28/07: Hi, I'm Neo -- and I'm ready to give you a big doggy kiss! I am a HAPPY HAPPY dog. I'm 3 years old and I was surrendered to RAGOM because my family didn't have time for me. Foster mom tells me I am on the tall side for a golden and I have a big blocky head. She told me that I am very attractive! She also said you need not apply if you don't want a big golden because I don't have a petite bone in my body. I am super friendly with other dogs and used to live with a 4 year old -- yep, that's me, kid tested!

I arrived tonight so my foster family is just getting to know me -- but I am a great dog and they will figure that out quickly! I'll let foster mom send the next update with more details.

Neko got adopted last night! He met a nice man named Jerry at the RAGOM picnic last weekend. Jerry and Neko spent lots of time getting to know each other this week. Jerry will be a patient and calm but strong leader for Neko and give him the kind of love and attention he so deserves. He has Neko registered for obedience class in November and would also like to do agility trials with him some day. Jerry is taking Neko camping, hiking, and swimming next week in Door County! He promised Neko that he will teach him Swimming 101.

Congratulations Neko! We will miss you but know you will be living a wonderful new life with your new dad Jerry!

Hi everyone!

It's me, Neko, again! Mom said I could use the computer to write my own update, so let me tell you what I've been doing the last few days.

I was up North at Foster Mom and Dad's home in Breezy Point, Minnesota last weekend and had a blast! Remember I said they were going to take me swimming? Well, they did and was it ever fun! I loved jumping off the dock into the water but didn't know what I was doing! I had to do the goose step to keep up with Robbie and Katie. Foster Mom and Dad were laughing their heads off. I didn't care, I just kept trying to do the dog paddle. Mom said she has to sign me up for Swimming 101 class. Check out the picture of me showing off my handsome physique as I get ready to climb up on the dock!

I love swimming!

I was very tired after swimming. Wow, what a workout! We came home, I had a good dinner, then curled up on my comfy dog bed for a rest. Don't you think I look cute? Mom said I look like a little puppy.

I'm dog-tired!

My foster siblings, Robbie and Katie, are throwing a party for me tonight and inviting a bunch of their doggie friends. It's a nice day for dogs and the weather is cool, so I think we will have fun!

I'm getting to know my foster family better and they said they sure do love me. They are looking for the perfect forever home for me. I told them I would love to have a family that has time to play with me, could take me to more obedience classes or even agility trials, Swimming 101 class, and just love me. I get along with dogs, kids, and cats and still don't climb up on the furniture. I don't bark at all, so I wouldn't be a very good watch dog. I think I sound like the perfect boy, don't you? E-mail placementatragom [dot] org if you would like to meet me. Mom said I will be adopted quickly, so you better not wait!

We have really been enjoying our time with Neo! He had a great time at the PetSmart event on Saturday. He got a lot of great birthday pets and ear scratches and even some new birthday toys and treats from some of the other volunteers! Thanks Cindy and Lindsey! We will send the toys and treats along to his new house where he doesn't have to share them with the resident dogs. He wasn't phased one bit by a couple of louder, barking dogs that we saw at Petsmart. He just doesn't engage in that nonsense, he just walks away.

We had some marking in the house at first but he really just took a liking to one particular spot on the family room carpet (which we are replacing in a couple of weeks anyway!). So we have blocked his access to that spot and this seems to have taken care of the problem. Other than that he has no behavior problems in the house. He doesn't chew anything in appropriate, even though we have a very tempting pile of shoes and boots by the back door and gloves and hats on the table. He does like to rip up stuffed animals, just like the resident dogs. He doesn't counter-surf, per say, but he sticks his nose up and sniffs around to see what you're cooking. At night he sleeps quietly in his crate in the bedroom, though we will probably try giving him free roam of the bedroom at night here quickly. During the day he is crated downstairs with the rest of the gang and he has no problem being alone for a full work day. He is not a barker, even when the resident dogs get going defending the homestead from people on the sidewalk. He was previously an only dog and I think that he could easily go back to being an only dog or would be happy as part of a multi-dog household.

Neo has learned to co-exist with the cats and has the scratches on his nose to prove it! He still thinks they are fun to chase, but no one worries about their safety anymore -- including the cats themselves. They love to taunt him by walking around just out of his reach on the back of the couch.

He is also happy to accompany you to the bathroom, just in case you need assistance. If not, he might just jump in the bath tub and hang out there for a bit. Do you think he might be a water lover? Of course with all of the snow this past week we have a big snow pile in our backyard from clearing off our patio. Bishop (resident Golden) and Neo now love to play "king of the hill" and when Neo wins the "king" spot he likes to lay down on top of the mound and survey his domain. He also got the resident canine queen bee, our 6 year old Maltese mix to play with him today. She almost never deems the fosters worthy of her attention, so this is a true endorsement!
