10/31/05: Meet Bizzy and Sassy!!!

Sassy is the blonde and Bizzy is a beautiful red. These two girls are 5 year old littermates and are being fostered together. We did try to separate them at first with 2 foster homes but both dogs were wimpering constantly and were not adjusting well. So we had a happy reunion last week and now they are very happy to be back together~no more crying, looking around for the other, isolating themselves, etc......Bizzy and Sassy have very similiar personalities. They are both very playful and happy, their tails wag 100 mph, they are trained and obedient and are very interactive with each other and also the other dogs in the house. When they were separated however they were not as interactive with the other dogs as they are now. They are dog savvy with many dog personalities. I have one dog who is choosy with his friends and both girls handled him well and now they all sleep together. They are very gentle and curious but can read social cues from other animals and children really well. They follow each other around a lot and its often hard to tell who is the leader. It seems they share this role nicely, unlike some human sisters I know :) They both LOVE Frisbee in the yard and will take turns. Bizzy is a bit faster and better at the game but if I tell her to sit and give Sassy her turn she happily does! These two are practically joined the hip! They each have kennels that their owner used when she was not home. I typically leave them in the kitchen with the other dogs and they will respect the baby gate and the trash. They both love to ride in the car and are excited to see new people and places! We went to the vet this week for their RAGOM check ups and both have skin allergies we are working on clearing up. Sassy's are a bit more serious than Bizzy's but both continue on hypo-allergenic food, antibiotics and topical meds. They love pets and baths and anything where they get attention and love from people. Their owner took them to the vet the day before their surrender and got them utd on their shots and care-THANK YOU! They are both spayed and obedience trained. In fact they are trained to use one specific spot in the yard for their "business." Its really amazing how well they take direction from humans. They used to eat their food out of the same bowl so we had some issues at first with my dogs and sharing......the amazing thing is if you say no to one of these dogs one time that's all it takes! They tried sharing once in the beginning and not once since. They are like malleable playdough, very easy and very adaptable as long as they can be together. We hope that one lucky family is interested in adopting them both. I can't imagine one without the other now that I have had them both for the last week. They compliment each other, play together and are such well mannered little girls. One family would be so lucky to have both!

Sassy has been with us for a week now and continues to be a very easy going girl who just wants to be with you. She's all for playing and exploring outside, but is just as eager to snuggle up and relax with you in the evening. She could very easily turn into a couch potato!

Right now, we're working on putting a few more pounds on her. She currently weighs 58 lbs. and the vet feels her ideal weight is between 60-65 lbs.

Because we don't have a fenced yard, Sassy is on a long lead when we're outside. This works out ok because she can sniff around but has enough room to play her beloved Frisbee. If not in a fenced yard, she would definitely have to be leashed as she likes to chase small animals and is on the alert for anything that moves.

Based on my experience with her, I think Sassy would do well as the queen of the house or with another fur brother or sister. She would love to be the sole object of affection for some lucky family (and not have to share her nylabones!), but has shown herself to be adaptable to many situations. Happy 2006!

Well, we have had a busy holiday season here. These girls did get adopted by a wonderful family for a short time in December but it wasn't quite the right fit so we like to refer to it as Bizzy and Sassy's vacation from fostering. They are back in their original foster and doing well, but then on Xmas day one of the resident dogs blew out her knee and needs surgery. So Bizzy and Sassy were moved up north today to a farm where they can run and play!!!!!!

What we have learned about Biz and Sass is that they are very adaptable. They adjust to new settings well as long as they are together and someone is throwing the frisbee. They seem to attach to new people and places well. Both times we have left them in a new environment they hardly notice we have left if they are distracted with a toy. Also they rode in the car a long ways in their kennel together and were as quiet as two little mice. They always get excited about car rides because it typically means DOG PARK!!!!!!!! Once they are in the car however, they settle right in and take a long winter's nap until the destination is reached.

They eat like little piggies and never gain a pound~boy are we jealous!!!! They continue on their hypo-allergenic food and their coats and skin are looking great! Winter is a great time for allergies. They also have completed their antibiotics and a short run of steroids for itchy skin. We will see how their skin progresses now that they are done with the meds.

Bizzy and Sassy are full of endless energy and lots of cuddly love! They run and play hard but relax hard, too. Once they come in from the cold snow they love to romp in and get their dinner, they are ready for naps in your lap! They have done really well at the dog park playing with other dogs and even sharing their toys. Bizzy is a fast runner to get her frisbee but sometimes there are puppies at the park who can beat her to it. She happily lets them have it and will take turns with Sassy when Sassy needs a turn.

We haven't been using their kennels very much as they never had any accidents in the house. They usually hang out with the resident dogs in the kitchen at night or when we are gone. At the farm, the new fosters are retired so they will be spoiled with lots of time, attention and love. Occasionally after work we would come home to find some counter surfing had gone on and snacks would be missing even if they were up high. These girls have quite a vertical!!!!!! They are food motivated and can be michievious at times when left alone too long. The new fosters will be a great fit for them! We will miss them dearly in our home and hope they get a forever home soon. These sweet girls need a permanent family. Thank you Bizzy and Sassy for being such good girls in foster and giving us a happy holiday season.

Sassy and Bizzy continue to be very busy and happy with their new foster canine siblings......They have even become assertive and playful with my one dog who tends to have attitude with other dogs. They play fight and I think he actually may be learning new dogs are fun!!!!! I apologize for not having new pics of them on the web. We are temporarily out of a digital camera with a new one on the way, so hold tight because once it comes there will be no holding us back!

This last week the girls have discovered they also live with a cat. She keeps to herself when there are new fosters in the house but has recently started to show her face.....Biz and Sass go NUTS when they see her. Pouncing and barking and chasing and trying to have fun with her. It's hilarious! They bounce like little tiggers on a trampoline! They cheer each other on until mayhem strikes and then we all have to take a time out.

They share everything still and are playing more interactively with the other dogs and their toys. It's fun to see them steal stuff from Mr. Bossy dog. They are really keeping him in line. Their fave game continues to be Frisbee in the yard and they got to experience the dog park for the first time this week! Oh what fun they had socializing with the others. They couldn't wait to get in there so they jumped out of the back of the CRV and dragged me across the parking lot!!! Lesson learned - these dogs are strong without the Gentle Leader holding them back. More to come and hopefully by next time there will be tons more pics to see. They look so much better now anyway because they are almost done enduring allergy dips at the vet. Their coats are so much thicker and their skin is healing nicely. Stay tuned......
