Hi RAGOM -
My name is Colleen and 12 years ago, my family adopted Morgan (06-245), a sick little pup who travelled all the way to Minnesota from Mississippi. We thought it would be fun to provide an update on our spunky girl, Morgie Moo/chow chow/Morgoolus/chow bear/Morgan Jo.
Morgan is turning 13 in April and becoming a grouchy old lady. To be honest though, she's been grouchy most of her life! We can't help but love her for it. She is fiercely independent, stubborn, sassy and a total diva. She loves us (mom, dad, three kids and a few trusted friends/significant others!) but keeps her social circle small!
Morgan has lost most of her hearing and makes incredible eye contact when she needs something. It makes us laugh because she demands attention with her eyes, even when she can't hear what we're saying.
Morgan likes to play with fuzzy tennis balls, walk around the shores of Lake Owasso (our home base), hide treats and toys and, in general, ignore her baby sister, Emma. Emma is a black lab who entered our lives three years ago. Morgan merely tolerates her, and that's okay!
Morgan was our childhood dog and best friend and we're lucky to have grown up with her. We are now 27, 25 and 25 and love her just the same.
Thank you for connecting us with Morgan!

Morgan is a hunting dog. No doubt about it. For lightning bugs, that is....she lays still in the grass, waits for the light to flicker and pounces on it. Actually, she has caught a couple of the unsuspecting bugs.
As you can see from the pics, she is growing and getting taller. She can no longer take a bath in our sink so into the tub she goes. She is very much a routine kinda gal. She gets up about 8am, goes out to potty and play with the big dogs. Then, it's breakfast time. She loves cooked hamburger (the only thing she'd eat at first when she was very ill) and turkey and rice. She also prefers the older dogs' dry food. Then, it's nap time!! After the AM nap, it's back outside for potty and back inside to play with the family. She likes to play fetch, tug of war and hide and seek. SHe will often take a long afternoon nap and eats supper around 5pm. Nap time again....then, a long walk and some playtime at the park. Bedtime is 10pm.
She LOVES all people. She LOVES all dogs. She'll sit in the grass and watch the joggers run by. She badly wants to join them but will sit nicely, wag her tail off and wait for them to pass. She is very polite that way. Morgan does still bite quite a bit and we are working on that. Hence, the need for her home to be with kids over 4.
She is a terrific puppy with a playful disposition. She is going to be very hard to let go of but if you are the right home for Morgan, please don't hesitate to apply.

Finally, the pictures I promised. Little Morgan playing with our Chelsea. I did not know Chels was the mothering kind, but she is in love with Morgan and Morgan loves her. Here she is taking a dip in the pool. She is not much into cold water but as I said before, she is quite the dare devil and will go in head first. And, of course, our little girl is taking piano lessons and learning to be light on the keys. She is full of talent!
Morgan is excellent in her crate, is going potty on the newspaper and outside and frankly, has had only one accident since we brought her home. She loves romping with the other dogs, is running a lot faster on her short legs now and eats three times a day. She is learning that biting hurts and we humans have soft skin. Her hair is growing back on her legs where the IV was placed and she seems to be happy as a clam!

Morgan is a stitch. It is hard to believe this is the same puppy that a week ago was so ill that she did not want to eat or move.
She has been outdoors with the big dogs and loves every minute of it. They try to dodge her puppy teeth and she keeps going back for more. The two that love to wrestle (90 pounds a piece) were doing just that tonight and little 4 pound Morgan got right in the middle. I have to make sure they don't roll right on top of her. She also found her voice yesterday and now barks when she gets all wound up. She is a bit of a dare devil but is learning her place in the dog pack.
Morgan eagerly met a visitor tonight. Gretchen, who volunteers for another rescue group, stopped by to see Morgan and make a donation toward her care. Morgan's is a wonderful story of how great the puppy spirit is and how wonderful modern vet medicine can be. We are so lucky to have her.
Morgan does eat four times a day now, has learned to lap up water from the big bowl and sleeps so great in her crate for nap time. She is finishing up her antibiotics and continues her dewormer and vitamins. She'll have another blood work up Wednesday to make sure everything is A-OK.

Morgan is doing great since her extended stay at the emergency vet. The anemia seems to be under control following the blood transfusion, her upper respiratory infection has cleared up and we are having good luck with the dewormer...if ya know what I mean....YUCK.
She is eating great now and filling herself up a few times a day and doing very well pottying outdoors. The kids keep her busy and she in turn, bites their toes and chases them all over the house. There is much laughter in the house now over Morgan.
This morning, our brave little girl ventured outside into the rain drops and headed right over to the gutter to look at the pretty waterfall flowing from it. She slipped right into a puddle and started lapping up the water. All 4 and 1/2 pounds of her didn't take long to get really wet.
Morgan is so outgoing and very much loves the other dogs. They are not too keen on her gnawing at their legs and chasing their tails, but so far, they are tolerating it. She doesn't seem to know much about self preservation at this point. I am sure the big dogs will help her out with that skill.
More later as we continue to help Morgan stay healthy!!

New pics of little Morgan! She weighs in at 5 whole pounds. Morgan did eat tonight - a bit of cooked hamburger and rice and a couple pieces of our adult dog food soaked in water. She played and was responsive. Please continue to send all of your positive energy. She is a total sweetheart. Her red blood cell count continues to be too low for the doc to be comfortable and they are checking for other causes of her condition. She is still not out of the woods, but eating will help a lot and we hope she'll keep taking a little at a time.

9:30 PM: Morgan was very ill when I got her to the vet but as of 9pm tonight, I called and she is resting comfortably. She is taking IV fluids, antibiotics and has been started on dewormer. She is extremely anemic and the vet thought perhaps she was suffering from upper respiratory infection and maybe distemper. She had to run more tests. Please pray for our little girl. She did NOT come all the way from Mississippi to give up in Iowa. My daughter who helped hold her the whole way from Des Moines is so sad.
