Jessi 05-369

Profile

10/22/05: Jessi has been surrendered to RAGOM because she suffered a collapsed uterus after whelping her pups, and her breeder could not afford the high cost of sending her to an emergency vet clinic for a blood transfusion and an overnight stay for observation. Jessi and her 8 puppies are purebred Goldens.

Jessi was born 4/29/04, weighs 61 lbs., is dark red and very thin - she will need extra helpings of good nutrition while nursing her babies. All look very similar and we're guessing them to be under 1 lb. each.

Please welcome RAGOM's newest little members: Penny 05-370 (F), Serena 05-371 (F), Prudence 05-372 (F), Paisley 05-373 (F), Rhiannon 05-374 (F), Jude 05-375 (M), JoJo 05-376 (M) and Pepper 05-377 (M).

Updates

Today Jessi's 8 puppies are 6 weeks old. They love to be handled and hugged and run around. They stood at Jessi's bowl and ate dry puppy food today till it was almost empty. Jessi would rather they not try to nurse, but when they corner her she patiently lets them drink.

Jessi and her crew of 8 are doing really well in their foster home. The pups all have the little black pads on their paws now; some are getting their black nose coloring. They will be a week old on Friday and now fill up your 2 hands when held. Jessi is being fed a large breed puppy food with added supplements donated by a RAGOM volunteer (thanks so much!) - she is so very thin. This evening she had her blood levels checked, and this will most likely have to happen weekly. So far she is feeding all 8 - we have not had to hand feed them yet. For now we're just holding and kissing them a lot. Jessi is a real cuddler and loves to stay right next to you.

Jessi made it through the night just fine, as did all of her puppies. She is comfortable and nursing her crew very well. Jessi will need to have her blood pcv’s checked weekly to make sure she is progressing well after the blood transfusion. When her levels are in the normal range she will be able to be spayed, which will be anywhere from 6 to 8 weeks from now, as she'll be busy nursing her babies for the next 5 to 6 weeks.
