Dakota 06-310

Profile

Introducing Dakota!! She is a 6-year-old gal with lots of energy!! She weighs about 64 pounds and has lots of golden hair. She was diagnosed with hypothyroidism, so takes medication daily for that. We put it in some peanut butter--no problems. :-) She also has an infection in her right ear, so we also clean that and apply ointment, and Dakota lays very nicely until we get the job done. She is spayed and UTD on shots.

She enjoys chewing on rawhides and nylabones, and loves to chase tennis balls, but does not like to give them back. :-) Dakota also loves water!!!! We had her down by the lake where she runs and jumps and then goes to the shallow part and lays down!! Dakota knows some commands as well--sit, down, come and no. She does heel somewhat but would benefit from a refresher course in obedience training.

Dakota is housetrained and has free run of the house. She will be ready for her forever home soon!!

Hi All,

It has been a while since we have updated you on Dakota so here goes: WE LOVE HER! She is by far one of the best fosters we have ever had. She is not a counter surfer, she has a very gentle mouth when taking teats, and she loves to snuggle up to you during nap or bed time.

In all honesty, we have not tried that hard to find her a forever home, because she has been so good. But, as with any foster business, there are always more fur-kids out there than there are homes and it is time we start to find her a new home, so that we can help others.

Dakota loves to be outside. She really enjoys chasing a tennis ball, stick or anything else that will start "play time." She knows the commands sit, stay, and down. She enjoys being brushed and walks fairly well on a Gentle Leader. She can stay by herself for up to eight hours, and she has free run of the house all day and night.

Here are a few new pictures of our girl as she was helping us rake leaves. If you can find the dog in these pictures, then Dakota would be a good dog for you. Please contact RAGOM if you are interested in our girl!

Dakota enjoyed a wonderful Labor Day. She got to spend it in the lake, one of her most favorite pastimes--that and fetching tennis balls. She continues to be a fabulous house guest, making herself at home now that the kids are back to school.

Dakota likes to lie on the couch or on the human bed during the day and loves to snuggle with us at night. She does have one bad habit--she likes to lie under the table when we eat. Well, OK, it may be our bad habit. Dakota just loves to be around people!!

Greetings from the Twin Cities!

Yep, Dakota got to be a city girl for a day and she loved every minute of it! I'll give you a summary of her visit to the Twin Cities:

First, Dakota's foster mom/dad dropped her off in Golden Valley on their way to a wedding so Dakota could go and meet her fans at the PetCo in Eagan. I found out that Dakota loves car rides (if you don't mind having a cute furry face resting near your elbow!). When we arrived at PetCo we found out she was the only dog in her age group! Yippee! She was a big hit and got tons of attention. She showed people how she could toss a tennis ball into the air and play fetch in the aisles of the store! Then she tried to engage random shoppers with her game and would drop the ball right at their feet and look up at them as if to say "Hi! My name's Dakota! Wanna play?"

Dakota charmed everyone at PetCo with her clever paw shakes! Most Golden Retrievers lift one paw when greeting people, but Dakota outshines them all by sitting up and lifting BOTH paws at once for a "double shake"! (I think she was trying to show off her sparkle nail polish that her human sibling painted on!) People even took pictures of her showing off her nails with her clever double shake. Some of her new friends filled out RAGOM applications requesting "Dakota, the cute girl with the sparkly nails!"

After spending most of the day at PetCo, I was tired, but Dakota was ready for more adventures in the big city! I asked her if she wanted to go to NE Mpls and meet my daughter and she said "Ruff!!" I think that meant "yes", so off we went! It was a beautiful day in Northeast so we (Dakota and I) relaxed on a hammock in the backyard and talked about our fun day at PetCo. Then Dakota said she wanted to check out my house and yard, so off we went!

Dakota spent the rest of the afternoon playing fetch and cooling down in the kiddie pool in my yard! Dakota lives on a lake at her regular foster home in Alexandria, so when she saw water in my little pool she went running to jump in (thinking it was a little lake)! Surprise! The water was only 4" deep! Dakota didn't care and she even tried "fishing" like she does at the lake but only came up with broken twigs! She had fun jumping and doing somersaults in the pool in between exploring the yard.

After playtime outside, Dakota wanted to go in the house and check things out. She confided in me that she really wants to be the only dog in her forever home, so I had my dogs wait outside so she could snoop around all by herself! She checked out every room, closet, and the basement. A wastebasket with a tilting lid scared her! Silly girl! Then she found a giant bone and had a back rub celebration with it while kicking her legs high into the air!

Before bedtime, Dakota had her nails trimmed and golden coat brushed. Then she let me check her ears and teeth. No more signs of an ear infection at all, they are nice and clean! Dakota promptly fell asleep and probably had dreams about her "Day in the City!" If you would like to meet Miss Dakota, please email placementatragom [dot] org and ask for the sweet Golden Girl with the sparkly nails!

Meet Dakota on Saturday, August 19th, 11 am - 3 pm at the Eagan PetCo - located at 1296 Town Centre Dr. in Eagan, MN - 651-686-9933.

Dakota continues to be a gem of a house guest!! She loves tummy rubs and snuggling. She had her thyroid levels checked today - they're normal with her current dose of medication. The type of medication she takes for her thyroid is about $20 a month and she takes it with no problems!!

Please take a look at her newest picture ~ having her nails done for the big event at PetCo this weekend!!

Hi all, Dakota here!! I sure have been enjoying my stay with my foster family. It is nice and cool in the house but I sure enjoy being outside, even in this heat!! I just really like it outdoors, especially when I get to go in the lake!! My foster family laughs at me 'cuz I like to stick my whole head under the water; they say I'm looking for fish.

I would really like a forever home where I am the only dog. My foster family says that I am an attention hog; I say I just really like to be petted a lot!!! And maybe I should have older children to play with - sometimes when I get excited and start to play hard I don't realize my own strength, and I would not want anyone to get hurt.

Keep Cool!!

Dakota :-)
