Profile

12/14/06: Sahara - the big blond polar bear - is back at my house. She was my foster dog in 2000 and through no fault of hers, she had to come back to Ragom. She hadn't been at my house since I placed her, but I swear she recognized it. She knows my older dog and she greeted him as if it was only yesterday that she had last seen him. I think she was looking for the senior dog that had lived here until April but instead she was greeted with enthusiasm by my youngster. Boo Boo had left earlier to start his new life, leaving my young guy without a play pal, and for a second I think he thought I'd brought him another pal...everyone has now been set straight...Sahara is not into playing, much to my young guys chagrin. Sahara is now nine years old. She is much mellower than when she was here before. Sahara has only been here for 2 hours, but she has already settled in. It always amazes me how adaptable these dogs are, her transition is eased by the fact that she knows the people in her foster home as well as one of the dogs...and of course the cat is still here. I'll write more as I get to know her better.

Sahara has adjusted to our house like she has lived here forever. She gets along with everyone, including my sometimes grouchy older dog (he has not even growled at her) and she has played with my young guy. He has been exposed to so many types of dogs since he came here that he is totally appropriate with whatever he is dealing with. He plays much easier with Sahara than he did with his recent house guest Boo Boo, who was also a rambunctious pup, but he got her to play and they have done it several times. Granted the duration is much shorter and the tone is much calmer, but they do play...she seems to enjoy it and even when they aren't playing, she pals around with him in the yard. She is a very easy dog to have around, she just wants some love. She is pretty velcro and likes to be near possibly touching. We have a walked a couple of miles and, wearing a gentle leader, she walks beautifully. She has been to Petco and was very interested in what she saw and smelled and seemed to enjoy herself. She is a beautiful full-figured blond and will make a great companion for someone.
