1/24/06: Our southern belle has arrived. Shelby made the long trip from Biloxi, Mississippi to our home over the weekend. Shelby has lived in Mississippi as an outdoor dog. She was allowed occasional visits indoors but because a family member was allergic to her she lived outdoors with another dog. Shelby has a history of ear infections & since the other dog made a habit of licking Shelby's ears, combined with the humidity of a southern climate, they never had the chance to dry out & heal. Shelby's family suffered damage to their fence with the hurricane, and when they saw a rescue worker they asked for them to take Shelby. Thus Shelby joined the RAGOM family & made the long trip north.

Shelby is a beautiful, light blonde, 3 1/2 year old, 70 lb girl (pictures will be posted by 2-1). She is currently sporting a rather unusual haircut though, as someone felt that less hair around her head & neck would help her ears feel better. She is spayed & UTD, heartworm & fecal negative. She will be on antibiotics for another week for her ear infections & then will have a vet recheck at that time. She gets along beautifully with my 3 children, ages 3,9, & 12. Shelby also gets along great with my 3 dogs, although my Tucker gets grumpy & occasionally growls at her. Shelby just wants to play & is usually carrying a stuffed toy in her mouth. Thus far she has had only 1 accident in the house, is very quiet (I haven't heard her bark yet), doesn't chew inappropriately, & walks nicely on a leash. She has had free roam of the house here & although I would not consider her a Velcro dog, she enjoys attention & snuggling without being demanding about it. And she gives the sweetest kisses to boot.

In case you couldn't tell, Shelby is a real angel. I can't say enough good about her. She would be a wonderful addition to any family, but especially to a family with kids and another dog.
