5/8/06: Lucy is an almost 1.5 yr old, spayed female, UTD, light gold/blonde, Golden Retriever who has hip dysplasia. She was purchased from a breeder along with her brother, who does not have hip problems. The owners relinquished her to RAGOM, as Lucy's hips make it too hard for her to fit into their very active lifestyle, and also they needed to save the money for their kids' college funds so couldn't afford Lucy's surgery. They have three kids; an 11 year old, a 2 year old, and an infant. Lucy was very bonded with the 2 year-old daughter, who would pull her tail, ears, hug her tight, literally lay down on top of her. Lucy (THIS IS AMAZING WITH HER HIPS) tolerates it all - has never growled, snapped...nothing, just sits there. She is great with their kids, good with other dogs, and ignores cats. She is an indoor dog, housetrained, free roam of the house. Never any aggression, is well socialized, and has attended two rounds of obedience classes. Lucy is a very gentle, loving girl.
I will be taking Lucy in for a consult on her hips ASAP to see if surgery is the route to take. For now, I would consider Lucy to be "unavailable" until that decision has been made. Check back in a week or so for further updates on Lucy's prognosis and treatment plan. For now, I'll just enjoy having her with me; I've secretly re-named her "Angel Dog".... :)
