Tonight Scooder went to his Forever Golden Home with his Forever Family. He will enjoy life with 2 human brothers and life doesn't get any better than that when you're a young pup. He should've been called "Lucky" according to his new "dad"...and he's right! Scooder was a stray, ending up in a place where his days were numbered. One of our RAGOM fosters found out, adopted him for RAGOM, then paid to have him boarded....out of her own pocket....til a foster could be found. I was lucky enough to be able to get Scooder and be his foster mom. Things weren't all hunky dory when he got here one day, and I brought home a girl from our pound on the very next day. They exhanged more than words. But through some positive reinforcement they became friends. She was adopted within a week. So the holiday season came, we went on vacation and Scooder went to the Spa. Then it was Christmas. Everyone was busy....no one looking for a young boy at this time of the year. So soon it was almost a month and time to look seriously for his forever home.

As I always do, I read through the applications and came upon what would be his forever family. A couple phone calls and a visit and it was love. The family wanted Scooder to join them. I had a few more days before Scooder was joining his new family. I spent every day thinking about what I'd learned from him, how to be more patient, take my time when he met new dogs, how sweet and loving a puppy in a big dog body could be. I also learned you don't lock up a dog this age in the bedroom....with or without toys and T.V. and not expect him to tear up the carpet trying to get out to be with the other 2 dogs. I remembered how much fun it was to just watch a dog this age play....throwing toys around, chewing on bones and being so eager to please for praise or treats :) What a joy he was. He was never a bed hog, he was potty trained and accepted crate training very easily. He was a bit too high energy for my resident and foster Casey 05-438, but in the end even he and Casey became friends. So once again I said goodbye to my "kid", cried and remembered why I do this.....why we all do it.....because there is always another puppy, dog or senior waiting to come to us. So good bye Scooder....enjoy your new family and a wonderful life. I'll miss you, but there's someone ready to come to take up residence for awhile.......til it's time to say good bye again!

Love, your foster mom

Well, here we are in a new year and it would seem Scooder and Casey 05-438 have turned over a new leaf so speak as far as getting along. I'm so proud of Scooder, as yesterday on a Home Visit one of the resident dogs, who is a smaller dog, was barking and growling to show her authority, but Scooder didn't fall back to his old ways and go after her. He and Casey aren't play buddies, but are co-existing very nicely. Scooder's only complaint is that since Casey doesn't have to wear her muzzle so much anymore and can't chew on stuff, all the chew toys are put up :( He gets them when Casey is either out or sleeping :)

This little boy is quite the character and is still very much a puppy as I found out last night. We went out for dinner and to the theatre. Well, I felt sorry for Scooder cuz Reba and Casey got to be free in the house. So I took the Kong and a new chew toy and put him in the bedroom..free...with water, picked up anything he could get into, etc. So 5 hours later we come home and the girls meet us at the door and all is well. Yep, do ya see it coming? I went to open the bedroom door and it wouldn't quite open all the way. Apparently Scooder Man felt hanging out in his own room was not acceptable and figured he'd dig his way out!!! Yep, there it was, ripped up carpet, shredded carpet pad, and the chew toy not touched!!! Well, it was my fault....letting one's emotions get in the way of common sense when it comes to a puppy is a very, very bad thing :) He will go back to being kenneled while no one is home. Meanwhile, he really is good about chewing on only the things he should, though if he goes too long without some thing appropriate....he'll find something else.

He's a good eater, is house trained, is funny to watch throwing toys, hooves, balls, etc. around when he feels he might as well entertain himself. He loves the snow and will go out at the drop of a hat. He was good at our Home Visit yesterday while playing with one of the resident dogs. He rides very well in the doggie mobile....doesn't try to jump up front or paw at you. He has that puppy energy, yet can be so good in the house. Though I will admit sometimes about 10:30 pm if he is feeling frisky he will start in with Reba and she will stand and bark at him....which in turns gets him barking......by this time hubby is in bed and is not real happy to say the least. Today all three of them, Scooder, Casey and Reba stood around barking at nothing special....someone started and off it went. I came running fearing it was a fight.....but no, just a bark fest.

Anyway, this little boy is more than ready for his Forever Golden Home. He is fine being crated while you are gone (just some of us have to find out the hard way), he loves to play and I think would have a great time with kids, probably around 5 on up, depending on how dog savvy the child is. A fenced yard would be awesome as he loves to run and chase and sniff. Or if you're a runner, this is a boy that keeps up with ya. So now that the frenzied holiday season is over and you are ready to relax and hang out with a sweet boy, come meet Scooder. Just contact Placementatragom [dot] org.

Now that the Holidays are more or less over it's time to get down to updating this boy's bio. He has been a very good boy and Santa brought him a new chew toy, some pig hooves, treats and as of tonight some new snow to play in.

Christmas day my brother came with his 5 month old German Shepard, Bruno. When you look at the pics and see them togeather you will see what a cute little guy he is. He is such a happy boy and was so tickled to have a playmate for a couple days. Bruno and Scooder played so much we had to separate them for naps :) They would chase one another, take hooves, toys and balls out of one another's mouth and then chase again. The pics really don't do either of them justice.

Scooder has not had any accidents in the house. He is crated while we are at work. He tries to get my resident 13 year old Reba to play, but let's face it, she's not Bruno. This boy has energy and yet settles down so nicely when it's time to. He has the softest fur I have ever felt on a dog. He isn't pure bred, but he is a pure bred lover, cuddler, runner, player....well the list goes on. He still likes to keep the cats' cardio up and whines when he sees them. We are working on sitting and waiting for our food, & sitting before we go outside and come in. I must confess we haven't been out a lot between vacation and Casey 05-438 coming. Things have settled down a bit in that department and it will be interesting to see how things work out when Casey is feeling better. Meanwhile the Scooder Man will be going on a home visit or two with me, and some walks to meet people. We don't have a lot of little kids around, so will have to search for some :)

I really think Scooder could and would be happy in a forever home with another furr butt playmate or someone one who has friends/family that would have someone for him to play with. It's hard to believe he's only a year old because he can be so calm in the house but then he'll get going running around and tossing toys, which is usually a sign I haven't had him out enough. He is ready, willing and able to go to his Forever Golden Home. He will benefit greatly from obedience school, a loving home and your patience. So if you are ready to bring a sweet boy into your life and home, have cats and another furr butt that needs a playmate...Scooder Man is the one for you. Just contact Placementatragom [dot] org (and I will try to get better pictures in next time!).

Scooder's foster mom

Saturday, December 10, 2005

Hi, Scooder here. Well, foster mom seems to be so busy with Christmas stuff I figured I better get some pics and send in an update. As you can tell from the pictures Spanky and I are getting along pretty well. We have a little tussle and play and then one of us seems to get ticked off and we get into it, but nothing like before. We love to go out and run and play and then we get to come in and at bedtime get a special treat. I also get a little goodie everytime I'm good around Spanky, so figured what the heck, I'll be nice to her if it means a goodie for me :) I haven't had any accidents in the house, or in my crate during the day. At night we get to sleep on the bed, tho last night I think Spanky took advantage of me, cuz I woke up and she was laying with her head on me, but being a gentleman, I let it be.

I really am a sweet boy and to be honest, for being so young I settle down very nicely. I love cuddling on the couch with foster mom and the cats and now I have decided Spanky can join us. We got new pigs feet today, but when I got a bit growly about mine mom took them away from everone. I'm a good eater, tho don't like the other dogs or cats coming near my food while I'm eating, but mom can pick up my bowl or put her hands in without a peep out of me. She can take anything, toy, nylabone or pigs feet away from me and I'm really good about it.

Have been enjoying going out and running a bit chasing balls and sometimes the girls. I get yelled at tho when I jump on Reba cuz she's so old. I try to play with Spanky a little, we just haven't figured out to play nice the entire time, but we're working on it. I am trying to not be so protective of foster mom and share her attention with the girls. I think depending on the dog I would fit in a family with another furr butt, but I could be happy on my own too, as long as there were people to love me, take me for walks and play with me. I'm not very big, about 43 lbs., have big brown eyes and a beautiful blondish colored coat that lightens even more on my belly and backside.

Since I'm still a puppy I would like to go to obedience classes to socialize and help me become the best dog I can be. My foster family is going on vacation and I have to go to a boarding place....well actually it's more like a Resort and Spa. I don't think I'll like being in a cage all day and no humans to play with me and love me up, but all the other fosters are full up and we RAGOM kids can only stay with other fosters or be boarded. But you still have time to meet me before I'm boarded on the 14th. Otherwise I'll be back home on the 23rd. I could still make it to bring in the New Year with you.

Well, hope you enjoy my pictures, didn't get any outside cuz we're kinda busy running and hard to get a good picture when you're in motion all the time. Stay warm, think about how nice it'd be to be cuddling with me on these long winter nights. Feel free to contact Placement@ ragom.org if you would like to meet me.

Happy Holidays, Scooder

Scooder made it to St. Cloud after a long ride from Iowa. He is a wonderful rider, thank goodness. Thanks to all that made it happen today. He was scheduled to arrive yesterday, but Mother Nature chose not to co-operate and his Iowa connection couldn't make it due to bad roads. Better a day late than anyone getting hurt on bad roads!

Scooder has only been with me for about 6 hours, and so far, so good :) He's very blonde, small, about 45 lbs., small features and feet. He has the most beautiful big dark brown eyes, soft coat and sweet nature. He will be going to the vet for updates and to make sure he does not become a father!! He wasn't sure about eating tonight, so I hand fed him most of the bowl til he decided it was ok to eat by himself. He walked right by our dog savvy cat, and as you see in the pic he just checks them (I have 2 cats) out. The most he does is whine once in a while when he sees them. He and Reba had their little chat when we got home and I think he now understands that while Reba ( who is 13) is laid back, he's a young pup and she is the Grand Dame of this here kingdom. No real interaction except to bark a little back and forth. Both enjoyed their pigs feet and that has kept Scooder busy.

He tried to get up on the couch with me, but I decided he's young enough to keep him off just in case his new family isn't into dog hair on the furniture. He has not picked up or chewed anything inappropriate yet. Will see how it goes. He was a bit skittish when I tried to get him to come out into the garage to go outside and go potty, so put a lead on him - he came out fine, then he went on the long rope for some running and potty time. No accidents so far. When he whines a lot or seems antsy I ask him if he wants to go out. The last trip he was out the door, got hooked up, did his business and was ready to come back in. Maybe he isn't ready for the MN cold yet....are any of us?

Well, give me a few more days with this little sweetie and see how it goes. He will be babygated in the bedroom with me and Reba....and the cats will have the opportunity to come in and check him out if so desired.

Stay tuned for updates on this little boy, he may just be what you are looking for to share the Holidays and your life with. When you're ready, please email placementatragom [dot] org.
