Tonight Scooder went to his Forever Golden Home with his Forever Family. He will enjoy life with 2 human brothers and life doesn't get any better than that when you're a young pup. He should've been called "Lucky" according to his new "dad"...and he's right! Scooder was a stray, ending up in a place where his days were numbered. One of our RAGOM fosters found out, adopted him for RAGOM, then paid to have him boarded....out of her own pocket....til a foster could be found. I was lucky enough to be able to get Scooder and be his foster mom. Things weren't all hunky dory when he got here one day, and I brought home a girl from our pound on the very next day. They exhanged more than words. But through some positive reinforcement they became friends. She was adopted within a week. So the holiday season came, we went on vacation and Scooder went to the Spa. Then it was Christmas. Everyone was busy....no one looking for a young boy at this time of the year. So soon it was almost a month and time to look seriously for his forever home.
As I always do, I read through the applications and came upon what would be his forever family. A couple phone calls and a visit and it was love. The family wanted Scooder to join them. I had a few more days before Scooder was joining his new family. I spent every day thinking about what I'd learned from him, how to be more patient, take my time when he met new dogs, how sweet and loving a puppy in a big dog body could be. I also learned you don't lock up a dog this age in the bedroom....with or without toys and T.V. and not expect him to tear up the carpet trying to get out to be with the other 2 dogs. I remembered how much fun it was to just watch a dog this age play....throwing toys around, chewing on bones and being so eager to please for praise or treats :) What a joy he was. He was never a bed hog, he was potty trained and accepted crate training very easily. He was a bit too high energy for my resident and foster Casey 05-438, but in the end even he and Casey became friends. So once again I said goodbye to my "kid", cried and remembered why I do this.....why we all do it.....because there is always another puppy, dog or senior waiting to come to us. So good bye Scooder....enjoy your new family and a wonderful life. I'll miss you, but there's someone ready to come to take up residence for awhile.......til it's time to say good bye again!
Love, your foster mom
