5/26/05: Miss Ashley Angel arrived for doggie slobber time?Oakley and Arthur love to slobber the new fosters with kisses. Ashley did very well with the two bouncing around and slobbering her - she would growl at them ,but that is acceptable behavior?especially with these two youngins.

Miss Ashley has a middle name that her loving family gave her and it's Angel. She is 8 years old, blonde with white in the face. Ashley was given up because her family is moving out of state. She has been a little depressed and confused coming into foster care, but she is coming around. She arrived late Thursday night and followed me to bed with no problems. She started to play on Sunday, the first two days she wasn't interested. She likes to carry this one bone around and she runs to pick it up when you get home so she can talk to you with it in her mouth.

We spent the long weekend together and she is doing much better now. She enjoys bringing me my socks and shoes?even when I don't need them. This morning (5/31, Tuesday) my son called to tell me that he couldn't find his shoes. I'm guessing Ms. Ashley Angel thought it would be cute if she hid them?I thought it was, too, but you know boys. Ashley is good with all animals. She's not playing with my gang but that's ok. She is used to being the only dog in the household and isn't sure what you are supposed to do with 2 young male pups?I'm not either! We usually just sit there and watch them bounce around the yard. Ashley has barked at the cats a few times but it's usually when they surprise her. Otherwise, she is fine with them in the house. Ashley will bark when you first get home but settles down right away.

Ashley is a very sweet girl who has a lot of love to give. She needs to lose some weight, and appears to be in good health. I will make a vet appointment for her to get everything checked out.

Ashley only likes to drink fresh water, so I fill up a bowl just for her. Ashley enjoys drinking out of the hose when we are watering the gardens. She just stares at me until I give her a drink out of the hose. Pictures and more info will follow soon. She is a sweetie and so cute.

Miss Ashley Angel was adopted on Saturday. When her new daddy showed up she jumped up on him and gave him a hug…I think she was begging for him to take her away from Arthur and Oakley. I've never seen her jump up on anyone, she was so happy that he was adopting her. Ashley ran out to get into the car and didn't even look back once - I told her not to because I didn't want her to see me crying. Once again I forgot to send the pictures in but I will do it, I swear. Ashley is now a member of the Purple Hat Society and she will wear purple to show that she is proud to be an older gal…yes, I got pictures of it.

Ashley Angel continues to live up to her name - she is such a sweetie. Yesterday I bought a kiddie pool for everyone to enjoy and Ashley taught my gang that it's ok to go into the kiddie pool and that it's a lot of fun. To my surprise my Arthur 04-392, who is usually scared of new things, was the second one in the pool. He loves sticking his head under water and blowing bubbles…yes, he's a little strange at times. So a big thank you to Ashley for teaching the boys to drink out of a hose…which adds on 10 minutes to my watering but that's ok - it's cute - and also for teaching them about the pool. Even Amber 04-267 jumped in and laid down…she didn't even try the kiddie pool last August.

Ashley is your typical Golden with the great personality, loves to carry something around all the time, always happy to see you, and is always ready to give you that big hug if you have had a rough day. I did take some pictures but I forgot to bring them to work so I could email them. I guess this gives me a couple days to get some really good pictures. Also, just so everyone knows, a few of the other fosters and I have started what we call the "Purple Hat Society". It's our special way of honoring our senior Goldens…and our chance to dress them up in goofy purple hats or bandanas. Get ready Ashley, because I'm pulling out the purple and dressing you up!

The senior Goldens are the most precious of the group. The best thing about our older Goldens is that they can read your feelings, they know when you have had a bad day, need a hug, or need a good laugh. One thing about the seniors is that they know the secret to a long life, and that is love and happiness. You can live a long time on love. So adopt a senior and watch your stress fly out the window, possible cholesterol reduction, and you could lose a few inches off the waistline from laughing so much. Just remember it's not the seniors that need rescuing…it's us, the humans. Trust me, the older Goldens have so much to teach us - they remind us to slow down and enjoy each day, take time to roll in the grass and smell the flowers. So adopt a senior today and take them for a nice walk, a ride in the car, or just love them as much as they love you.
