Buddy went to the vet yesterday and is a very healthy boy. Everyone there loved him and said he was handsome and had such soft fur. On the way to the vet clinic, he rode nicely in the car and looked out the window or slept.
Buddy is ready to start meeting families. He would be fine as an only dog and would enjoy getting all of the attention. But, he would need to get enough exercise and be able to play with other dogs sometimes. Buddy would also do well in a home with other dogs, especially if the dogs were young and playful. He loves to wrestle and chase the dogs in his foster home. There have not been any fights or major disagreements between the dogs. Buddy will occasionally challenge the other dogs, but they treat him like a big puppy and give him a little reprimand.
Buddy has wonderful manners in the house. He is completely housebroken, does not climb on the furniture, only chews on his bones, and he does not even rip up stuffed toys. He is not possessive of food or treats around people or other dogs. He patiently waits his turn for a treat and then takes it very gently. Buddy sleeps on his dog bed at night. We kennel him when we are gone, but he was gated into the kitchen at his previous home. Buddy does not bark when someone is at the door and we have never heard him bark when he plays outside. He will bark when he needs your attention - to go outside, to get his toy that rolled under the couch, or to tattle on the other dogs. The other dogs like to steal Buddy's toys and he will bark to let me know that he is being teased. Buddy likes to empty all of the toys out of our two toy boxes. His favorite toy right now is a squeaky bulldog. His new favorite game is to take this toy and drop it at the top of our treadmill (while it's moving) and then he runs to the end and grabs the toy as it falls off the track. This game is only fun when someone is running on the treadmill, so we have to learn to dodge his toy. Buddy is quite a character!
Buddy is 74 pounds and very strong, so he uses a gentle leader on his walks. He likes everyone he meets and can get excited and jump up on people. We will be working with him on this behavior while he is in foster care. Buddy is a really great dog and must be adopted by a family that will make him an integral part of their lives. Buddy loves attention and wants you to play with him. He likes to put his head or his toys in your lap when you are sitting. Since you can't play with him all the time, he is learning to lay down and play with the toy by himself when you tell him to. It is really hard to resist giving in to him because he is so cute! Buddy tries really hard to understand you by tilting his head and listening very intently when you talk to him. He really aims to please and learns what is expected very quickly.
