4/4/06: I'd like to introduce Emma Jean to everyone, Emma for short. I'm not a Golden?but I'm just as sweet and loving as a Golden. I've lived in a loving home for a long time, my mom was a RAGOM volunteer who had a stroke in December and we needed someone to care for us for a while. This is how I ended up at my foster mom's house. My mom loved me and my fur siblings very much and she would do anything and everything for us, but sadly she needed to sign us over to RAGOM to find forever homes for us.
When I first went to my foster mom's house in December, I was a little confused and heart broken. I'm the type of dog that can feel how my owner is feeling. Even though we weren't together I knew when she was having a good day or a bad day. I know not everyone believes in this but when I would go to my foster mom and cry she would find out soon after that my previous mom wasn't feeling well that day. I'm the type of gal that will cry when you cry and laugh when you laugh.
Ok, it's time for foster mom to talk?you have to cut off Emma otherwise she would talk your ear off?just kidding. She is a true sweetheart who is about 9 years old, medium sized, black with white on her paws, chest, and tummy. She kind of looks like a Border Collie with medium length hair. I believe her mix would be described as a Spaniel/Black Lab/Border Collie mix. The only reason I say Border Collie is because the white markings remind me of a BC, so don't worry, she's doesn't have a herding drive. Unless, if herding means she enjoys a lot of belly rubs... :)
Emma is a low maintenance dog who gets along with dogs, cats, kids, humans, etc. She enjoys walks but doesn't pester you to take her. Emma always has a smile on her face, if you ask where's your belly she will happily roll over and show you. Emma is a love who doesn't demand attention but loves all that she can get. The only time Emma jumps up is when I come home and she greets me. I believe she is jumping so she can get around the obnoxious Arthur and Oakley. Most of the time she has 4 on the floor for attention. Emma loves car rides and gets very excited when you tell her she's going for a car ride. When in the car, Emma will bark at people on the street, but I think she is just telling them how excited she is that she's going for a ride. Emma doesn't get car sick so she is the perfect traveler.
Emma's mom was a vegetarian so she didn't have bones or rawhides, but at my house she is allowed to have both. Emma loves to gather her rawhides and make a pile next to my bed. This is her spot and if I'm looking for her this is where she will be. Emma will growl at other dogs when she has a rawhide, she won't bite or hurt them but she wants them to respect that it's her rawhide and to give her room. My Golden gang just doesn't catch on to her hints and they love to tease her about rawhides. My Oakley knows that Emma is next to my bed with a rawhide and he will keep walking by the bed to irritate her, then he runs in and out of the room to get her really going. You have to understand that if Oakley was human he would be the little boy who pulls hair to get the girls' attention. Emma can and has been in the same room as my Golden goofs with a rawhide and if they leave her alone she is fine. I can go up to Emma and take the rawhide away. When my cats walk past Emma when she's enjoying her rawhide she doesn't care. It's the pesky Golden boys who have to tease and torment her, that get her going. When Emma is growling at them she can be loud and sound kind of scary but she isn't. Ok, so Emma has one bad habit. In a home without other dogs you wouldn't even know she has an issue.
Emma loves to be talked to. No matter what you say she assumes you're talking about her. She will dance, roll over show you her belly, or talk back. Sometimes, when she cries I ask her what is wrong and she tells me and then goes on her way.
I know it will be tough to find this girl a forever home on a website for Golden Retrievers, but she deserves the best and we will find her the right home. So if you're not interested in her?pass the word along and maybe you know someone who would love a medium sized dog, good manners, allowed free roam, great walking partner, a dog who gets along with cats and other dogs, personality plus?they won't be disappointed.
