Profile

Jasmine is a 10 year old female who came from a shelter in Iowa. They called RAGOM to see if we would help her find a home of her own. Jasmine is spayed and UDT on her shots. She came into foster care sporting a shaved look, once her hair grows back you'll be able to see more of her golden brown coloring that she has. She has AKC papers and is microchipped already. She is slightly overweight at 78 pounds. When we went to the vet today she thought she should lose 7-10 pounds. Jasmine has a hypothyroid problem so she needs to take 2 tablets a day for meds. The vet examined Jasmine's rear legs since she has trouble getting up from lying down, and she has bad arthritis in both legs - her right side is worse than the left. After her senior blood work comes back we will start her on Rimadyl to see if that relieves her stiffness a bit. I am giving her Glucosamine which also will help her joints. She received a Bordetella shot today and her fecal came back negative. Jasmine tolerated all of this like a trooper - she is very sweet! We were told that thunderstorms make her nervous so that she becomes restless and pants, however her anxiety is not severe. But of course now it will be hard to know until next spring exactly how bad the problem is.

Jasmine is good with cats and does fine with other adult dogs. Since she is a senior, she is not interested in playing - puppies have too much energy for her and she will growl at them, so a home with young dogs or pups that want to play incessantly would not be a good fit. Along the same lines, Jasmine tires of the activity of young children and will growl at them as well. She has never shown any sign of wanting to bite animals or people and is fine when meeting young kids on a walk, it is just the constant contact with small kids that is too much for her. It would be best for Jasmine to be placed in a forever home with teenagers and up, and a home that didn't have too many stairs for her to climb. She is a very low key type of gal who is seeking a quiet place to retire and call her own. I will update more as we get to know her. She seems very easy going, and has the dearest face!

Hey everyone, it's Jazzy checking in. Today is my birthday - I turned 11 years old today! I had a lot of fun on my birthday - we all had to wear party hats (I THINK IT WAS TO HUMOR MY FOSTER MOM) and we had Frosty Paws to eat - it's a really cool dog ice cream. I was the first one done with mine and then I got a peanut butter chewable bone for a present. Let me tell you, I had a good day!

Whenever all of us dogs go for a ride with my foster Mom I call shotgun, since I like to sit up front on the heated seats. Boy does that feel good on my hips - I just lean back into the seat and enjoy the ride! The younger teenage girl that lives with me sometimes gives me puppy massages on my hips and knees and I really like that, too. I could lie there forever! Gotta go, it's almost my bedtime.

Love, Jazzy

Jazzy is settling into foster care very nicely. The first day and a half she would raise her lip at my resident dogs, just because they wanted to sniff at her to see what she was all about. Now they are best buds and getting along fine. I have 2 senior female dogs and one 2/1/2 year old male, and he knows to leave Jazzy alone since she is not one to play. Jazzy's senior blood work came back and it was all perfect so we can now start her on the Rimadyl for her bad arthritis in her knees - hopefully it will help. She is very slow to get up and when she goes to lie down. I've noticed when she starts off walking after lying down she walks with a limp - she does this also after we have walked a block or two. The vet thought walking is good for her arthritis but we don't go too far and we go slow. She wasn't crazy about the Gentle Leader but with a few treats in hand she'll do anything. She loves to eat (that's why she's on a diet). When I get her food ready she get's very excited and she does this cute little prancey dance before I set her food down. She also will do that same move when we return home in the afternoon. I have let her have free reign of the house along with my guys for about 4-5 hours without any problems. I do pick the dog toys up when I'm gone, cuz I want to moniter that sort of thing when I'm home. All the dogs sleep in our bedroom at night all around our bed - everyone seems to know their own spot. Jazzy has a big thick comforter to sleep on and she seems to know that is her special blanket already. I will also bring that out in the living room during the day since it makes it easier for her to get up after she's been lying down for a while. My two teenage girls adore her, my older daughter has nicknamed her Princess Jasmine and I think she likes it. Jazzy is a sweet special girl and no trouble at all.
